So Ainge is probably going to use Rondo in a 3 team deal to acquire CP3, because he's a G like that.

Then we're going to extend CP3, sign Dwight in the offseason, and bring back Ray and KG for peanuts to have an all-hof starting lineup that has 100% perfect synergy.

Disagree....in addition to the CP3 deal we will trade JO, Green, Krstic and the rights to the 2012 first rounder to get Dwight Howard and Ryan Anderson rather than signing Howard in the offseason.  We will also trade the Amnesty rights for JO as well.

hope springs eternal - for starters: Rondo and what? to land Paul? - Rondo is good but he's not worth Paul straight up and the Hornets already said they're not interested unless you can get another team involved

we have the clips 1st rounder (top 10 protected but it should land in the 11-15 range this year, which is decent in a stacked draft) plus ours.

so we'll basically trade Rondo to somebody for something and then hurl a pupu platter of crap at NO and they'll say "**** it" and accept.  pretty much the same thing that happened w/ KG and Gasol, only not nearly as rapey as the Gasol deal.

Apparently CP3 won't re-sign with Boston if traded there.

They should still do what it takes to get him. You don't have many opportunities to win a championship, plus if they do happen to win it you can guilt him into signing anyway.

+1

We just don't have the goods to extend him now, but it wouldn't be such a longshot to get him and Howard to dually agree next year.

Apparently, Garnett's not coming here either:

Ainge sorta acquired a future hall of famer to change his mind.

What can he do to change CP3's mind?

who the heck is CP3? I know who C3PO is though and he's kinda gay.

I guess that signing Shane Battier wouldn't do it.

Carl Perkins III?

I'd consider 1 year of CP3 to equal several years of Rondo

it isn't like the Hornets have a prayer of signing Paul....a pretty good option to replace him has some value
11/30/2011 9:43 PM (edited)

this kind of comes down to either Stern finds a way to keep the Hornets a viable commodity or he has to contract them

under normal circumstances the right move for a franchise at this stage would be to get the best rebuilding package (picks and youth - like with Memphis a few years back (btw QED deanod, unlike the deal that say Danny's pal Kevin got)) and start over but this situation isnt normal for a lot of reasons

it will be interesting to see what happens

Not to mention that you couldn't possibly have a roster situation that is moreso suited for 1 year of CP3.

I guess their hangup is that they see Rondo putting them in perpetual 35 win purgatory because they wont' really be able to surround him with anything.  Don't see why they couldn't play out the season with him and then deal him as a consolation prize next summer to those who struck out on the big time FAs

Gasol has become a more valuable commodity over time, but as a centerpiece during that moment in time Jefferson blew him away.  He had ~ top 3 pick value and Gasol was worth like a late 1st rounder.

They can't let him walk and he's probably not going to re-sign with anybody except for NYK, who can't even meet the 1 year rental price.  Doesn't look like there's a deal to be had now, but at some point they're going to realize that nobody's offering better than Rondo or whatever the return on Rondo in a 3 way would be.  The Clippers have the goods to make an offer, but they're in less of a position to go all in on 1 year and a prayer with a career of Blake Griffin vs a 1 year window of the Big 3.

Part of me feels that NO may overplay their hand and **** this up, but if their roster next year is like Okafor, Jack, and Ariza they really may as well be contracted.
