I just had a 71.8 % foul shooting Moses go 2/12 from the line.  Freakin' ridiculous, random garbage is what the SIM currently is.  Shame seble took a once good game, turned it into sheit, then tossed it aside.  He's probably laughing his azz off at those of us too stupid / stubborn to stop playing.

He just earned a spot on basically every team I draft now... I need that 11 oreb% for my guards man...
what's especially awesome is that if you click to bballref you'll see that no such season exists - it's all a sham

actually, our good friend Al is there in all his glory ...

of course, if you play him more than 3 minutes a game, many aspects of his stat line will be rather dismal
12/5/2013 9:12 PM
look again - do you see 207 minutes? his 53-54 season is actually a non-qualifying 181 minutes, his real life efg is 10% lower than represented and do you see any reason at all to ascribe to him 5% stl or 11% orbd? pure fabrication but they cant give Bill Russell a 90D because that would be 'unsupported by statistics'
12/5/2013 10:03 PM
The 53-54 season had 72 games, hence the increase in minutes (they did the same thing with the lockout seasons).
12/5/2013 10:37 PM
I get the Russell argument. It annoys the hell out of me that the best defensive player of all time can't get his due respect here. However, if you look at the 52-53 season, you will see that the season was 72 games long. It's the same prorating of statistics that happened for the 98-99 and 11-12 lockout shortened seasons. His efg% is lower because WIS fabricates 3pt shooting numbers probably based off some BS.

My big gripe about WIS $h!t is the disparity between the advanced numbers on BBallRef and the ones WIS uses, especially wrt reb% and ast%. 94-95 Stockton has a 52.6 ast% on BBallRef, yet only 42.9% with WIS numbers. Rodman's crazy half season (94-95 also) has 20.8 oreb% and 37.8 dreb% on BBallRef while only having 20.1 and 36.5 respectively in the WIS database. To prove that this isn't just outdated stats getting mucked, 12-13 LBJ has 36.4 ast% on BBallRef, while sporting a relatively measly 24.2% in the WIS numbers. Does anybody have a reason, or even a guess at a reason of why this is?
12/5/2013 10:40 PM
as nc mentioned, statistical extrapolation was applied

also consider that factors for early NBA seasons are estimates since data is not available for those seasons

it's actually kind of neat exploring bbref and seeing the scans of newspapers box-score clippings from various eras

and the 52% shooting, 5% steals and 11% orbd?
12/6/2013 12:46 AM
steals and offensive rebounds weren't tracked back then

the surprising eFG is due to the manner in which they projected his 3PA (46 of 71 total attempts)

pretty high foul drawing rate, too based on his actual statistics
12/6/2013 2:01 AM
as I said, pure fabrication

they're not supposed to project 3p accuracy in a way that dramatically changes the IRL fg% - with most of the pre arc guys with 'projected 3p fg%' the 3p fg% is aligned with they irl fg% - Al's #s are a clear F- up in violation of the site's stated approach to 3p projection

and I know that steals and boards weren't tracked back then but this doesn't explain why you would give him such dramatic numbers - in fact what we do know is that he had 28 rebounds that season playing on two teams that combined for over 7100 rebounds and yet we think he was some sort of 5'10" Rodman hitting the O boards like a maniac?

I think this brings into question their entire approach to statistical projection - it's an approach after all that assigns Bill Russell made up numbers in blocks and steals and then turns around and uses those made up numbers as part of an equation that delivers him a laughable D rating - it's an approach that knowingly ignores the fact that NBA D team and DPOY's weren't around in the olden days but uses those awards to render modern era players better defenders

they cant assume Russell would have been DPOY at least in all those seasons he was named MVP? I mean he wasn't named MVP for his scoring prowess clearly

and it would be as easy as opening an excel file and making a few key strokes (Belushi: But Noooo!!!!)

for clarification- GSW = low IRL pfs & POR = low IRL ftas - put them together in this sim for game 5 of the second round of the playoffs and what do you get? OPPOSITES!!!

so, yeah, yay?

"94-95 Stockton has a 52.6 ast% on BBallRef, yet only 42.9% with WIS numbers"

because WIS doesn't take the player's fgm out of the equation.  A player's own ast% helps him shoot better.  Their justification is that point guards with extremely high ast% would suffer the ast% penalty if the rest of the team didn't make it to that breakpoint.

Seble has not posted in years.  I'm pretty sure he is no longer involved and whoever took his place is never going to post their name. They just post as admin now.  He might have gone to EA. Their games are so screwed up they eliminated their forum altogether due to so much complaining.
