Link is bad, but I found the squad.  This is the proper link www.whatifsports.com/nba-l/stats.asp?teamid=388010&view=4

Usage seems alright, but proper usage mix is only one part.

Ray Scott is an awful pick.  23.4% Usage with an eFG of 37.9%.  That is true sim poison.  Other than him I hate Russell, Digregorio, Gill, Wedman, and J O'Neil with a venomous hate.  I think you get rookies in a ex league (I don't remember its been a couple of years).  If you do you can drat 17.5K minutes and use the rest for the rookies.

Yao, Drexler, Parker (more on this later), and Wilt are not bad picks.

Do not be afraid to draft low usage rebounders.  They can have a low eFG and not kill you because they will not take away shots but instead play D, rebound, and pass (as the stats allow) and you need much of that to win a game since that translates directly into points scored (or in defensive stats points not scored).

Rebounding is horrible you are getting killed in the possession battle with this.  The only reason you aren't statistically getting killed in rebounds is because your team shoots at such a bad clip that they allow for more rebounding opportunities.

Assists are ok.

Defense is ok.

I do not like Tony Parker as a top usage guy other than your center tandem (which one does rebound his position well, and the other is Wilt) because Parker doesn't shoot enough 3's to really change a game.

You need a good amount of 3's to be competitive.  Furthermore, you need a strong eFG.  I do not feel as though you have achieved either.

jlrunruh (and others)...

Check out this thread.  I feel as though it will answer some of your questions.

Okay, thanks for the help ash and malone, very helpful

I have to disagree with the need for threes, respectfully. Maybe in a theme league with vets who will play positional d, but you can win an OL without a lot of threes.

With all of the info i am determined to win 80!

Is ash ever wrong, pfattkatt?
8/28/2013 7:59 PM
I'm not sure what you're looking at, pfatt... You're not even close to 102% on most of your players.

You currently have 104 unused minutes on Jordan.  This is just through 76 games, not including available minutes in the final 6.
31 unused minutes on Lebron.
130 on Stockton...
30 on Walton.
You're 14 minutes over on Worm.
You've got 53 unused on Bird...
65 unused on Zo.
37 unused on Faried.
143 unused on Magic.
222 unused on Ginobili.
75 on Birdman
You're four over on Ellison.

The formula used to determine available minutes for next game:

RL Minutes * 1.02 / 82 * (total games played + 1) - Minutes Played.

For example, MJ:

3034 * 1.02 / 82 * (76+1) - 2764 = 141.98

That means Jordan could play 141 minutes in your next game and still not be fatigued.

i been wondering about personal usage. how far above actual fga can you go before a penalty kicks in.

ashamael, I cannot thank you enough for what you have posted. I am having so much fun with SIM hoops, and believe me, I need the distraction. My cancer has always been serious, but pretty much unobtrusive. Lately, it has been really painful and disturbing. You have made my life better, as I say, a much needed distraction. And, right on time. Check out Curry and Ginobli on my team in NBA 45477. Never could have done it without your help. Thanks so much.

pfatt: glad I can be of help.
ysw128:  That's a good question that I'm still working on.

Okay... got a pretty good sample size.

First, here's the advanced stat comparison:

Here's the link to the team with "enough" usage to follow along:

Here's the link to the team with more usage to follow along:

The "more" team is by far dominating the enough team.  Interesting thing to consider.

Midseason thoughts:

As far as turnovers go... it's about the same with MJ on both squads (9.4 vs 9.8).  CP3 has many less per possession on the "more usage" squad (11.8 vs 16.7).  The teams are pretty close (15.6 on the 'enough' vs 14.4 for the 'more') but still a pretty significant difference (8.3%).  Interesting thing to observe, though, is the efg% boost... MJ is shooting 50.2 vs 52.3 while cp3 is shooting 50.4 vs 53.1.  Also, the defenses in the "more" team's division are generally better in the back court.

These results seem to pretty conclusively support the idea that what was perceived as "enough" usage before might not be the ideal usage to target.  I'll keep you updated.
