Can you guess how many games up this team is?

I've got a 1930 prog team that's currently in the Top 25.  66 games in and we're 47-19.  We've got the top 4 MVP vote getters, as well as the 1-3-4 leading Cy Young candidates.

How many games up are we?

We're one game back!

Believe It or Don't!

Update:

Season's over for my1930 prog team.  We held onto the top 4 MVP spots, and the 1 and 3 Cy Young spots.  We scored the most runs, allowed the fewest runs, and won 113 games.

And finished 3 games out of the playoffs.

To quote Fun Boy Three's cover of that old jazz standard, "It ain't what you do it's the way that you do it".

According to b-r.com, the most similar pitcher to Dallas Keuchel is:

Dallas Braden!

Apparently having the same soap opera leading man first name factors into these things.

Worst offensive season ever for a hitter with 120 SB?  From the Random Captain league (90M theme), my 1986 Vince Coleman:

.199/.265/.252

Running Hot & Cold (& Cold & Cold & Cold...) Dept.

9 games ago, another team in an 80M theme I'm in exploded for 10 HR in a single game as they reached the .500 plateau (64-64).  Since then, they've lost 8 straight.  In those games, they've scored the following number of runs:

2, 0, 0, 0, 2, 0, 0, 0

6 shutouts in 8 games -- just 4 runs total!

still can't figure out how he was on base enough to swipe that many bases, but I played in the league with you and to quote the now-touring Grateful Dead.."what a long, strange trip it is" (or was)

1974 Tommy John just won a Cy Young award for me. His stats? 1.52 WHIP, 4.32 ERA, .288 OAV, 0 Games Started... not good enough to make leaderboard in any category!

His 25-2 record probably had everything to do with winning it.

Indeed. Overvaluing wins and abusing tandem rotations FTW.

Yes, the Awards rules are a bit quirky.  Wins factor into Fireman: when was the last time a Win for a Closer wasn't the result of a Blown Save?   It happens, yes, but not most of the time.  Yet that Win counts.

Player of the Game awards can be odd, too.  Recently in a theme league my 1915 Pete Alexander had a rough outing -- 6 innings, 10 hits, 4 walks, 7 runs allowed (all earned), although he did get the W since the offense came through.  At the bottom of the boxscore under POG: "Pete Alexander strikes out 10."

I don't know, but to me a W and 10 K don't really make up for 7 runs allowed in 6 innings.  That's still a bad start.  I also had a couple of batters with 3 hits, and one with a double and HR and 3 RBI.  It's not as if there was nothing to choose from for POG.

And for POG, I love the occasional "Pitcher X gets shelled".

In CLWECW's 24 Extreme Themes league ($140M), celticus' 2000 Pedro Martinez just threw a perfect game.  Noteworthy, but what makes his performance relevant to this thread is what Pedro did in his very next start...a no-hitter.  Only an Ozzie Smith error prevented Pedro from consecutive perfect games.
