Well I put in some serious work tonight and compiled several teams based on players country/state of birth. There are basically 4 countries that are loaded on their own: Czechoslovakia, Finland, Russia, & Sweden.
I broke down teams by each Canadian Province: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, & Other. There are a couple States that can field pretty competitive teams such as Michigan, Massachusetts, & Minnesota. Illinois & New York are marginal.
Not sure a team comprised of the other United States would be very competitive even though you'd have players like Leetch, Lafontaine, & Chelios.
My question is how to break up Ontario & Quebec? Alive/Dead, HOF/NON-HOF, Campbell/Wales Conference only? Clearly these Provinces can field multiple competitive teams as Ontario has over 2000 players alone & my browser kept crashing every time I brought up the list of players born in there!
I will post some of the teams I created to get your constructive criticism/input. Thanks for all the suggestions/comments! I look forward to dropping the puck...
