I am in favor of using the original concept proposed by dn and is why I signed up and  chose the Red Sox in the first place.   Yankee free agent use doesn't matter either way.  Could use sub .500 year every 3rd year if everyone wants.  Sox only have 5 of them since '67, though.  I would prefer to bring your best every year or randomly pick a year from a block of six or so of your choosing.  I sort of like the random idea.  Then you don't even get to pick the precise season.  All these other restrictions are just over complicating a simple and fun concept.
Interesting thoughts

It's doubtful the league will last more than 10 seasons realistically.   Most teams have at least that many seasons above say .550 in the past 35.
You are kidding, right? From the 8 teams left(not counting combo) only 2(Minn/Angels) have 10 .550 seasons - SanDiego(4), Cubs(4), Texas(6), Pitt(7)...........which is probably why nobody has stepped forward to claim those teams. Even KC and Cleveland (who are already in) dont have 10 .550 seasons.
In fact, going back the last 18 years Pittsburgh has zero and KC has just one .500 team.

Wasn't kidding....but point taken.  Those facts show that some teams don't belong in this kind of league.  One way to even things out would be to pick your 5 favorite seasons and one season below .500.  Number them 1-6 and a simple role of the dice for each team will select which season gets played.  Get through 6 seasons and set it up again.  Blacklist those seasons if you want to or not.  Use an exclusive wild card draft pick from the yankees (small y) or your own franchise if you want, matters very little to me.  Or if the remaining teams are so terrible, may just play with 16 or 20 or make everybody use seasons between .475 & .525 pct.  I also don't mind the playing every other year below .500.  Might be fun in the rotten seasons since everyone is rotten and has no chance to improve over anybody else.  I seldom offer my thoughts in the forum, but here are a couple.  I'm playing no matter what.  Let the majority rule.

Why doubtful that it would only last 10 seasons?  There are plenty of progressive or pseduo-progressives that last much longer than that.  And I'm sure dn, myself and other owners are banking that it lasts longer than that.

If you aren't planning to be here until the end, why are you signing up?

Who's not planning to stay till the end?  I think it's a great theme.  It will last as long as people participate and I for one will be there.

One more suggestion for equalization - if you use a .600 team you do not get to add a FA(yankee or franchise)
6/18/2012 12:36 PM
That last suggestion seems very fair, grayfoxx.

By the way, I'm committed to play, no matter what.  I really like the idea of this.

How about an equalization schedule?

year 1 - bring it on, best of the best
year 2 - bring it on, one more try
year 3 - sub .500, this should be fun
year 4 - .500-.550 nobody is the favorite

year 5 - back to the best
year 6 - same as above
year 7 - sub .500 scrubs battle for gold
year 8 - .500-.550 *the Cubs win, the Cubs win*

and so on, and so on

Like grayfoxx's last post. I think with this type of schedule more guy's will sign up. Year's 3 & 4 sound great to me ( considering I have the Royals )
