I'm pretty sure I got what's going on, and I'm not sure that it can be abused, but it has the potential to be.  Can you figure out a way to abuse this?  I think I might but goes against every instinct I have:

Note:  this is NOT my team and I am NOT complaining about it.  I'm just wondering if you think this has the potential to be abused.  If so, then it is a problem (but with WIS - not the guy that figured it out).

I'm guessing that ur referring to the 100% 3pt%# for several players.
8/4/2012 11:04 AM
How the heck is he getting Ming and Brand to put up that many 3 pointers? They only shot 1 3 pointer each in their actual season, at 100%, but still only one. Feick only shot 3, 3 pointers, but hit them all as well in his actual season. Richardson only put up 2 his season. WTF

It doesn't look like he is having much success winning, but this is really odd. How is he doing it ash? My only guess is that he is losing late and set up his team for 3 point shooting when down at the end of games.

Abuse the s out of it and post your results ;-)

I think your theory is correct, smiley.  Not a bad idea either.  When trailing by 1, use a 3 point offense with guys that never missed!  Too bad you can't use the 3 point offense all the time.
8/5/2012 9:36 AM
I think you mean GOOD THING you can't use 3 point offense all the time.  SIM would be (even more of) a total joke then.
8/5/2012 8:39 PM
Yeah smiley/badja you got it.  And since there's no penalty for overshooting 3s (just normal fgs), the %# will be the determining factor.

Really, really bad.  That's also why you can see Ray Allen make 400 threes in a season but not suffer on his 3pt% (but have his overall fg% decline).

Time to see how badly it can be abused...
8/5/2012 8:42 PM
I don't think you can draft the guards to abuse it... but you certainly can make a pretty mean front court with a Gilmore season, a Buck season & a Brand season.

Might be able to lower the %# and still do exceptionally well, though.

The problem is is that the only way to exploit it is to be losing in the last 6 minutes. As soon as you get ahead, you revert back to your old offensive system. I don't think it's a good strategy to plan to be losing in the last 6 minutes. As you pointed out ash, the options at guard suck. What is this person's record right now?
8/5/2012 9:43 PM
What is this person's record right now?

7-11.  He doesn't have enough boards or even high % scoring options until the last few minutes of the game.

Well, if you're ahead, then it doesn't matter if you're shooting 3s - you're already ahead - you know what I mean?

hey thats my team, i stirred this much buzz and im this new. grats to me.  for those wondering i killed in an exb league, 8-2 or 9-1 and i won every game down 15-20 points with 6 minutes to go, i got a new exb team thats 4-1 and only needed the 3pt offense once. now the only sadness i see is i didn't get to keep my secret too long, but i knew if i did good ppl would start doing it. especially now that it's brought to the forums it's out there for good despite it hasn't worked well, thanks ashameal though your insight and free giving of sim knowledge lends you a pass in my book. I'm going to bring my exb team to an OL once more with more emphasis on reb% usage, I sacrificed Brand's poor reb% for Russell and Iceman. and that's ok because Yao and Fieck will be my only 2 listed at the 5 meaning someone to never miss a 3 will always be there. I don't intend to lose every game in the 4th, but my whole thinking was that this strategy is a scape goat, or a last lifeline to play. and that if i can manage to only be down 10-15 pts ill win the game so long as i have the last shot, but the open league has been difficult . now i ask you all to forget you ever heard of this post, and give it no bumps thanks and kisses.

That won't happen.  This is an exploit, and if it's something that wins when it shouldn't, then it's something the community needs to be aware of.  If it's something that isn't winning more than it should, then it's no big deal.  But it remains an exploit of a poorly programmed sim engine.

since there's no penalty for overshooting 3s (just normal fgs), the %# will be the determining factor.

That's why it's an exploit.  A player has a steadily increasing penalty for overshooting their IRL numbers... but 3s aren't affected.  3s need to be effected.
8/6/2012 8:02 PM
yes yes yes and as the owner of this exploit i only wish to defend it to the death. and i don't think buck , gilmore brand will do it. trust me i looked at them long and hard, I am a rockets fan so ofcourse i wanted some Yao, but the problem lies with what i wrote in the league boards, is any player under 100% fatigue will not shoot 100% 3's as shown above. and those misses came when fatigue set in. you get 3 rookies, and chances are all 3 will have atleast 1% on PER, so when i have to put the rooks in for fatigue reasons, they take every shot in the crunch and don't hit squat, as shown above. it's going to be very very hard to get 20000 minutes with buck, gilmore, brand maybe 2 but easily with 1.  remember about 90% of the available players in the strategy are off limits, and there is only 1 true PG you can take Don Buse, infact i think Buse is the only full time starter available with over AST% 20. <<goes to find his collectible MIB memory eraser thingy>>
8/6/2012 10:16 PM
1.  Rooks (usually) don't play in crunch time unless a player is fouled out.
2.  The highest usage player will still have the highest chance to shoot the shot, so even if a rook is in, the likelihood that they take the shot will be much smaller.
3.  90% is still ridiculous.  You don't need a 100% make-rate to come back when you're not that far down.  So fatigue really shouldn't be an issue.
4.  Don't be behind in the first place and none of those things matter.  Drafting a better core will ensure that you won't be as far behind when crunch time comes.
5.  No offense, but I know this sim extremely well, so I don't exactly put a lot of stock in what someone tells me "won't work" right after they tell me that they're new.

8/7/2012 1:10 AM
Jesus h sorry I offended thee. That might be true so explan why in the cruch on 3pt offense it either defaults to highest PER players on the court and gives the most 3's to the one with the highest PER. This has been true in all my games where rooks played. I invite you to check my 3 rooks and view game log and see when they took all those bricks and the cruch. You layed out 5 points of I'm right ur wrong. Are you mad ? One of those retorts sounds like resentment. Sorry I didn't explain my logic into more detail. But I know that if the 2 rooks play with higher PER they do get put into the game on 3pt offense and they do take all the 3's yeah I'm new but creative enough to try something new you said you'd never seen and during this expirement these our my findings . A good friendly debate please. Yet #1 and #2 are wrong atleast with the small sample this season has shown me with the current set up of this team that doesnt exist. In all seriousness can u please tell me why this is happening with the rooks if what you say about 1 and 2 are true. I do like to learn even if the new guy can't teach you anything I still enjoy your articles and sim knowledge
