So what does it get you? As an illustration only:

I can see a total of 477 Names. That's right, I didn't even get a full 500 names.

Of those 477 names, I can get the Background Info for only 203 of them. Of those 203, 58 are High School Players. The other 145 are College (including CC). The other 274 names are just that - names, with no age, location, position, throwing hand, or anything else.

Of those 203 with Background Info, I can see the Current/Projected ratings for 45 players. Of those 45, 9 are High School Players. The other 36 are College (including CC). The projections are also obviously ridiculous, with many showing no projected growth at all in categories.

On the plus side, it makes planning for the amateur draft much less time consuming.

Must be 45 guys who are related to folks who work at the ball park. I can see the GM meeting with the guy who sells hot dogs cause he has a cousin who is a pretty good ballplayer.

"I know a guy who has a neighbor who says he saw this kid pitch . . . "

I think the GM went to Youtube and typed in "My Kid is an MLB Prospect"

zbrent, do you have a pick in the first round? What will you sort by?

I have two first round picks (#25, #33) and two supplemental round picks (#42, #59).

I sorted/ranked primarily on a combination of Current Ratings and Age, and bumped anyone who looked like a ML guy (with modest growth) up the list.

Next came the guys whose current ratings made it seem unlikely they'd be real ML players, but who had absurd projections (just like some do not project to grow at all, others project to grow 50+ points and cap at 100). I'm treating them like lottery tickets.

After that will come those from places with cool names (so two guys from Earth, TX get a bump), switch hitters, and people who are at least listed at harder defensive positions (so C/SS/CF) on the theory that it might be possible for a defensive specialist or speedster to slip a bit. This ordering really serves no useful purpose though.

After that, I just pick names I like.

You should pick them based on their player IDs.  The good players are often clustered near each other.

I don't know if this is true, but it's just as good as anything else (at least for the name-only people).

But is there any easy way to pull the player ID info out? Or would I have to mouse-over or click each player profile to get the ID number?

They allegedly "fixed" this issue years ago.

Pretty sure it is not completely fixed.  Just look at the player IDs from your latest draft and you will see that many of them are not far apart.  If you have an ID for one good player, it can't hurt to move up the others with IDs near his number.

I don't know if a way to pull IDs without clicking on each player.
