Also a good discussion, and you get the added comedy of rangerup saying two completely different things 6 months apart.

Actually both of my posts on those two threads pretty much say the exact same thing.

Post 1
Catcher is one of the most important positions IMO.  They can greatly effect the game defensively, helping your pitcher (s) produce more outs and also throwing in some offense as well.  While nothing beats having an ACE starting pitcher, having a good catcher is a close second.  Then of course, strong up the middle applies as well.

When looking at catchers, I always try to get a high PC coupled with adequate offense.  PC comes first.  If I roll into a catcher that just mashes and is near 50 PC, I will play him, but will then pair him with a 90+ PC guy to finish games off.

As an edit, if I do have a masher low PC catcher type, I will also look to move him for pieces I do need.  Nothing excites a good trade opportunity more in this game that lighting up the other guy's MDS (Mesolimbic Dopamine System - not related to the game lol) with offensive ratings.  Offense is great, but personally I always look to fulfill my defensive needs at every position first

The number 1 thing effecting TEAM ERA is the pitchers themselves.  2 is the ballpark.  3 is the defenders behind him.  4 is the catcher's PC.

You can gather all these together to your advantage and have a great team.  You can have a monster masher at C with a lower PC (50-70, IMO never go below 50 or you are shooting yourself in the foot).  Or you can get the C with the 90/90/90 block and be just fine.

I have tried both, and have settled somewhere around having a good hitting C with PC of 60-70, with a pure defensive guy on the bench, who usually comes in about the 8th inning and pumps up the pen with his 90+ PC.  A good mix.

Good job Mensa candidate.

In "post 1", you say that catcher is one of the most important positions.

In "post 2", you rank the catcher as being less important than all your pitchers and all your other position players.

I'm not sure how both posts are saying "the exact same thing" when in fact, they are saying exactly the opposite.

It's the exact same thing but different.

Like apple pie and 22" rims.

You can find that street corner sign in about 75% of Missouri towns. No biggie.
