Thought it was interesting that the Knight brackets came out on same day as the actual Selection Sunday.  Don't know if that has ever happened with one of my teams.  In any event, I compared D-1 Knight vs. real life, and wondered how many teams made both fields.  My guess before looking was about half.  The answer was 26.

Useless info, I know.

Several interesting things to note though are that WIS tournaments only have 64 teams versus the 68 in real life and that at least two teams in this years' tournament are still DII teams in WIS (Florida Gulf Coast and South Dakota State).

as the coach of La Salle, I thought it was ironic that they were part of the "Last Four In" in both

And also, Saint Mary's inexplicably is not represented in this game whatsoever.

Wow. I didn't even realize that. I guess it was more important to include Grambling St and Lipscomb than St. Mary's...

St. Mary's plays Middle Tennessee in Dayton in the First Four game.

At least Grambling and Lipscomb are still D-1 programs.  Morris Brown and Birmingham Southern are not.

What's your point?  That's why I brought up that they inexplicably aren't represented.  They are a team that regularly been making tourneys for close to a decade, and have yet they have no WIS presence.

New Orleans is also no longer a DI school.

Not true.  They initially voted to drop to d-3, but then re-considered.  They played this season as a D-1 independent, and are joining the Southland next season.

Ah, I should do more research next time.  I just remember them dropping back to DIII.  I was aware they were considering a return to DI but didn't realize it was so imminent.

On a separate note, do you know if Morris Brown even still exists?  I tried to find more information about the school and I found articles about them potentially foreclosing in 2012 but I found nothing else about the foreclosure.  Though it appears Morris Brown's college website hasn't been updated since 2012.

sorry, I misread your post. I thought you meant that St. Mary's wasn't in the NCAA tournament.  I agree that they should have a WIS team.

HD began in 2003 or 2004, I believe. At that time, St. Mary's wasn't known for its' basketball. They hadn't made the NCAA tourney since 1989 and was 2-27 in 2001 and 9-20 in 2002. I'm sure that's the reason they weren't included in the game.

I think they are trying to stay open.  Ironically, one of the things that led to the school's financial demise was an overly ambitious athletic plan that had no foresight whatsoever.

Morris Brown filed for bankruptcy protection in August 2012. They hadn't paid their employees in 3 months.  They lost their accrediation in 2002 and dropped all athletics.  Only 36 students are enrolled at the school

This year, for Homecoming, they had a  basketball game featuring local radio celebrities.
