You do understand the fundamental difference between M/W and M/M or W/W marriage, right?   Assuming you do, quit pretending that they are the same.   They simply aren't.   Therefore, the law is NOT applied unequally.    It is different laws for different situations.

And please don't say "But interracial...." because that is not the same as SSM.     It simply isn't.
I don't think there is a material difference between gay and straight couples.

Do you not understand how biology works in human beings? Do you also not understand the biological differences between men and women?

That could be your problem.

But there is a difference.

If you look at a wolf and Husky, you don't see much difference.    You could watch them interact with their pack(family) and you wouldn't see much difference.   Yet, deep down in the back corner of your brain, you know there is a difference.

“They're not the same thing, but fine, I'll give you several reasons so you'll shut up about it.” (I said we can move on.  I’m willing to “shut up about it.”)

“I want a clearly defined meaning for the word marriage, without confusion as to what the genders of the partners are.” (Right.  You said you don’t want confusion.  I asked you why.)

I want to be able to hear someone say "I'm married" and know that their partner is someone of the opposite gender, and I want to be able to say "I'm married" and convey that my partner is of the opposite gender without having to specify.  (Right.  You said you don’t want confusion.  I asked you why.)

You aren’t answering my question.  When I tell people I’m married, if they wonder if I married a man, I don’t care.  If they wonder if I married a blond-haired person, I don’t care.  If they wonder if I married a 3-eyed monster, I don’t care.  I am asking why you do, which you haven’t answered.  Again, if you don’t want to, it’s OK.  I can move on and you can continue to talk to yourself.

Seriously?   Matching sex organs, the ability to reproduce, the deviation from traditional relationships.

Yes, a SSM could function just like a traditional marriage that does not intend to reproduce.   But it is not the same.

You aren’t answering my question.  When I tell people I’m married, if they wonder if I married a man, I don’t care.

I see. This all goes back to your inability to see anything from any perspective but your own.

Maybe YOU don't care, but others do. At least try to understand that not everyone is like you.
I am asking why you do, which you haven’t answered.

I care because I am in favor of clear communication. When I hear marriage, I want to know it means a man and a woman. When I say marriage, I want that meaning to be clear as well.

Why can't we simply call homosexual unions another term, such as civil union, in order to facilitate clear communication?

I don't think the differences require us to prohibit marriage, do you? Interracial couples are not the same either and we allow them to marry (since 1967 anyway).

"Maybe YOU don't care, but others do."

I don't know if you noticed, but I've been trying very hard to gain a different perspective.  You aren't allowing me to.

"When I hear marriage, I want to know it means a man and a woman. "

I've been asking why you feel that way.

Are we done now?

Interracial couples do not possess different genitalia.
I don't know if you noticed, but I've been trying very hard to gain a different perspective.  You aren't allowing me to.

Now I'm somehow forcing you to insert your own perspective and only your perspective into your responses? That's somehow my fault?

I've heard some ridiculous statements on here, but that one takes the cake.
I've been asking why you feel that way.

Are we done now?

And I've been telling you it is for clarity of communication, which for some reason you keep insisting "doesn't count" by the rules of burnsy or some other ridiculous crap. Whatever. What I'm done with is playing your childish games.
5/2/2013 11:55 AM
I'm not being childish, I asked a simple question - Why is it important to you that it's clear whether a marriage is heterosexual or homosexual?

Isn't asking for your perspective a good way of showing I'm looking for a new perspective?
5/2/2013 12:00 PM
Why is it important to you that it's clear whether a marriage is heterosexual or homosexual?

I want to be able to understand what genders are involved when I hear others reference a marriage, and I want others to be able to understand me when I reference my own. I don't want to think someone is in a real marriage if they are really in a homosexual union, and I don't want anyone else thinking I may be in a homosexual union. I don't want anyone to be confused as being of a sexuality they are not choosing to be a part of.

Explain the differences between a black man and a white man.

Then do the same for a black man and a black woman.

Interracial marriage does not compare to SSM.   Please stop pretending that it does.

5/2/2013 12:13 PM
I think it compares. A group of people want to marry. Allowing them to marry harms no one. Allowing them to marry changes the definition of marriages and offends some people.

The ability to reproduce is the only difference between straight and gay couples. We don't require that couples be able to reproduce to marry.
5/2/2013 12:19 PM
And I think SSM compares to porn on network television.   "harms no one", "makes people happy" and the ol' "no one is forced....."

If you'll stop saying the marriage between two different races is the same as the marriage between two same sex individuals, I'll stop comparing SSM to publicly broadcast porn.    Because, in my mind, they are equally silly comparisons.
