I love that everyone has gotten into UNO. Makes me regret dropping out, def will stay in next time. As an UNO vet from the LIVE side, only thing I will say is to keep the reverses to one a round. I love that as part of the strategy because if you choose to save it and are at the end of the draft where most people have a problem being, you have achance to srew eveeryone else's draft by picking a team with salary implications for the people who were at the top of the draft who prob already wasted their wild cards. That's my two cents to such a great league concept.

So true Bastan...having been "screwed" myself in the LIVE versions it was what made you have to lower salaries of key players to accept a $2M scrub...that is true UNO.

I'd like to see the Reverse somewhat limited, but doing so does slam the teams at the end of the draft order harder than those at the beginning, by taking away the ability to pick up two superstars in the early rounds while those who start in the top 8-10 picks get a disproportionate amount of top players, especially SP. Maybe limit how often a Reverse could be played by allowing it only after 10 (or 8, etc.) number of picks have been made in a round? That would eliminate the quick reverses in and out of franchises but still make it so everyone will have a chance to use the card.

In bulantz' live version with 1 Reverse per round, after 6 or so seasons I got out my spreadsheet and it was clear that anyone picking after about 18th was flushing $12.95 down the toilet.

That said, I completely agree with jbar that a key element of UNO is the risk that you might have to swap out your $12.7M 1941 Ted Williams for the $4.2M 1953 version because you get stuck with Gene Brabender and John Carney.

i played many an UNO league and i was sad i missed out on this one.  i think that, with the multiple reverses allowed per round, the salary cap should be closer to 100 mil to balance out the players a bit more.  with a lower cap, the teams that pick near the beginning wouldnt be able to gobble up all the super stars right away or they would risk not being able to play with the seasons they want to.

i dont think that you would see as many people using wild cards or reverses to jump up and grab some of the more popular one year wonders and would lead to more people having to do what JBarr mentions above.  screwing with everyone else has always been one of the best parts of UNO.

maybe there could be a bit of a screw your neighbor element to the draw 2 (which is what the card is in UNO anyways).  The team that leads off each round "draws two", a player they want and a gift player from the franchise to another owner (eliminating round 25, which is never as fun because you have a truck load of guys to pick from).  i havent thought it through a ton, but the potential for awesomeness seems pretty high.

As for us, I think the current rules are just fine...They are simple, but allow lots of strategy...

The only thing I MIGHT add would be a round 26 to the draft...Why 26??? To allow the drafting of unique parks, which could be done in ANY round, w/ round 26 becoming the select who you want round...

I see what you're saying about the "draw two" there and it is interesting. I could call out the Yankees, play my draw 2 and pick Babe Ruth and stick the owner behind me with Mel Hall. That is an interesting concept.

Just mho, but I wouldn't like a rule that allowed you to put a specific player on another team.

Ditto. The biggest problem with that would be the same as when the skip was too punitive (moving the player behind you to 24th in that round). Some players would use it to hose nother owner, while others would be nice guys and not use it. Or one might use it for Mel Hall and another might use it for Mario Rivera if he likes the owner behind him. With the Skip as used, one owner might go from the #2 pick with a Red Sox to #24 with a Pilot. That would be fine if everyone got slammed in the #2 spot, but only about 8-9 owners had it done to them.

has it been decided already. If not I don't like the SKIP card. My vote is leave cards the same as season 1 but good on the combined franchises

We started having a discussion about randomizing the draft in the V2 draft thread.

I worked up something - I'm not guaranteeing 100% accuracy, but I'm pretty sure each team gets each draft pick 1-24.

It can be simpler than that. Just randomize which team starts each round, and everyone else follows. That way you always follow and precede the same people, so it's quick to sitemail.

#1 starts the first round, followed by 2-3-4 ...
#8 might start round 2, followed by 9-10-11 ...
#20 might start round 3, followed by 21-22-23
etc.

Everyone gets a turn in every spot, but the team that picks 24th in round 1 might pick 8th in round 2, 13th in round 3, 3rd in round 4, etc.
But if people want their draft times to just shift forward by a half-hour every day, randomization doesn't work.

I would like to see a 1920 - 2013 version of UNO to bring back the homerun.

The first few versions bulantz ran were 1950-current, with a few pre-1950 teams sprinkled in for fun (Spiders, Doves, Robins, etc., but no dominant deadballers such as Joss; no Ruth, Gehrig, Wagner, Cobb ...). He had the teams split 1950-1980 and 1980-current. That meant just about every franchise was thin on superstars after a few picks. Players such as Jim Fregosi and Buddy Bell were always taken and started for someone.

I like that a lot
