This seems like a common sense question, but I've learned that WIS and common sense sometimes don''t go together.

If I release a Type A free agent, what happens to the compensation picks?

Why are you releasing players?  Don't do that.

If you're asking if you sign a Type A FA, and you release him before the draft, do you get your pick back? No.

He has to leave as a free agent for you to be eligible to get compensation picks.

If you release him, you get nada.

Like I said, it seemed like a common sense thing, but I just wanted to be sure.

 

Burnsy...no, I was asking if I release a Type A player and another team signs him, do they still have to give up compensation picks.

Why would you release them?  You are already paying their salary.  No need to let them play elsewhere for free.
