Thanks Vance for posting my proxy.

The below is likely to be my squad, however I’m still considering different versions of a few guys and may still opt for the 40D 6-point Ray Allen.

As it stands now this team will test the lower limits of the WIS personal foul distribution. I’ve never seen a team here get below 16 pf per game, but the RL pf rate of this squad is only .059, putting it at least 25% below 20 or so teams in the league and as much as 50% below a few.

I’ll likely just run just these 7 guys, and six of them pass, so my ast% will average near 90 and be over 100 a lot of the time. Durant’s offense will be maximized and my team RL FGA/FTA ratio is in the 2.5 range, so he should lead the league in FTM.

Name Team Pos Usage% 2pt%# 3pt%# eFG% OReb% DReb% Ast% Stl% Blk% D
Kevin Durant 12-13 Thunder SF 30 53.7 41.4 55.9 1.7 18.9 15.2 1.7 1.9 78
Jerry West 70-71 Lakers PG 25.5 52.6 35.1 52.3 2.6 7.2 24.3 1.9 0.3 90
Ray Allen 00-01 Bucks SG 24.5 50.9 43.2 55.7 3.5 11.1 15.2 1.8 0.4 50
Deron Williams 07-08 Jazz PG 23.4 53 39.3 54.4 1.3 8 34.2 1.4 0.5 70
Tayshaun Prince 07-08 Pistons SF 20.5 46.1 36.1 47.6 4.6 12.4 13.4 0.8 0.8 80
Wes Unseld 72-73 Bullets C 14.2 50.8 33.2 50.7 10.7 25.9 12.1 1.2 2.2 55
Reggie Evans 12-13 Nets PF 11.1 47.7 0 47.9 14.6 35.7 3 1.8 0.4 29

Evans will keep the rebounds very competitive in the beginning and end of games, major disadvantage when he’s not on the court of course, but we will see if my significant advantages in other areas are enough to compensate. IMO this team will contend for a division title, especially if it ends up in a division with mainly high pf rate squads.

Should be interesting, nate, but I just don't see it. I think you're counting on the free throw/foul thing, and high assists, to give you a huge advantage, but I don't know how it can make up for bad rebounding, bad frontcourt D, and below-average efg%. Also think you put too much usage around Durant for him to really blow up the way you expect.  But god bless you for continuing to try these fun things, you make it more interesting for all of us whether it works or not.

So here's my top 10 in this league:

Wilt
Lebron/Howard/Kareem
Shaq
Jordan/Gilmore
Bird/Durant
Paul
I don't know where Moses goes....

and ya know, Rodman is indeed way overrated here.  You need him in OL's because everyone else has him too, so you have no choice, plus you can clone him.  Here, you need a guy that gives you multiple great things and few bad ones.  Rodman gives you only half of what you need and you can't get those things later without giving up defense or eFG or usage.   Since we have to choose between high usage and eFG or Rodman, you have to leave Rodman out of the top 10.

and I just wanted to note that guys like Troy Murphy used to have high defense and be 2nd round picks.  Without that defense, he is not there to pair with late 1st rounders to make a competitive team against the Wilts and Howards.  Then there is the position effectiveness changes when Murphy and the best Marion and McHale could play the sf and REALLY give you an advantage.

Tar,

Thanks, I'm glad you respect that "same old, same old" can just too damn boring here.

I could use a better version of Unseld, but that would prevent me from testing my pf/fta theory and reduce my assists. I've been waiting a long time to utilize Prince in this league, there is not a cleaner player with 80D in the Sim.

I'm also very curious to see how far the engine will pull up the foul rates on these guys. We may learn that there really is a lower limit, (should be in the .067 range).

I hear you on the Durant/remaining usage thing, but in theory I'm also reducing his turnovers by keeping him out of the individual penalty.

Also its always frustrating when you have a game here and you have 30 or so fouls to the other guys 8, leaves you saying "WTF WIS". When it happens to my opponents this time around at least they will know it was by design and not some random WIS screw job.

Should be interesting. Payton could be a big mistake, or he could flourish; I might regret going with the barely over 50% efg version of him (got bigger assists, rebounds, and threes but lose efg% and steals).  Defense of the starting lineup is 100, 90, 84, 83, 63, and no one on my current roster is under 57, so should be an above-average defensive team. Last major rotation guy is a SG/SF who plays about 1500 minutes around 60 def.

This team only has about 450 threes, nothing special. Played with versions that had more like 550, along with bigger rebounding, but settled on this design because it's very clean - not a lot of fouls, not a lot of turnovers. Several mediocre efficiency players in the starting lineup (between 50 and 52 efg%), and my last rotation guy is in that range too, but then basically everyone else on the team is 57%+ and several over 60%. It's kind of a weird team.

It's not as good as I hoped for; wanted Nance in the second, and probably should have taken Blaylock over Payton, going for a super-clean high defense team. Still should be a contender, and if not I blew it given how good Wilt is.

Badja,

Even though I've never used Moses in any WIS league, IMO with a cap this high he is top-4 for sure. Also Kareem was not an easy build for me at least, trying to overcome his weakness on the boards led to far too many sacrifices in other areas.

I'm torn on Rodman, I'd never pass on him for Kareem, Gilmore or Bird though. I had a Rodman strategy in place if he fell to me this time at 6, and it included a sacrifice of D and boards at the PF position for an elite efg long range guy. In the wrong hands Rodman leaves you too much to makeup in this league but IMO is very dangerous with the proper build.

Tar,

So are you running Barry at the backup point? Is your last guy over 12% assists? If not then even with Wilt, IMO you could drop below the assists floor any time the Glove is out.

With Wilt maximized like this as the #2 or #3 scoring option you should cruise to 50 wins, but Payton has the chance to be really frustrating for you.
1/8/2014 2:11 PM
Nate 34 creb% is not really deficient.  Deficient is McHale and Amare.  Kareem gave me a #1 overall seed here and Gilmore won an ODL ring:)  Rodman has notably never won a draft league that I know of.

There are a lot of board lords available later, but no guys that make 57% of 29 usage for 45 mins!!  500 made ft's and 11% assists.

Moses used to the be amazing here especially paired with Kidd.   Dwight and LeBron pretty much ended his reign.

1/8/2014 3:35 PM
tar, interesting squad.  Should be tough to beat.  My only question is do you think you will see any individual usage penalties?
1/8/2014 4:43 PM
Sly, I don't see how its possible for Payton not to "live" in the penalty, but Wilt will give him 25-28ppg IMO, depending who the last guy is. That 18.5 usage comes with more possessions per minute than a lot of players in the 22.1+ usage tier, many a 14/16 game is in Wilt's near future.

Well, for one thing, that's a 3400 minutes Payton season, so he won't be off the floor much. But I have a 300-400 minute or so backup with higher ast% than Payton. Also my undrafted backup SG/SF has about the same assist % as Barry so ast% shouldn't really be a problem.

Also, most of my bench replacements are same or higher usage than starters.  I'll admit I'm a little lower on usage than I usually would be, but I'm banking on the success of teams like penn's last year that also seemed to have too little usage. We'll see.
