 Shoeless Joe Season 24

Ok.  After filling on the first day last season, we have had unusual turnover this year and its been awhile.  So we are going to try a few new things

1.  A former commissioner has agreed to return to the league and is going to restart the blog

2.  I have a few owners interested in world swap.  So if your world is taking too long to fill, sitemail me and we will see if we can work something out.

This has been a very stable and competitive world for real life years and is just going through a little transition.  Get in now and you will stay I promise you!

 Openings:

Indianapolis: (56-106, 3rd Place AL East): RESERVED

- A bit of a rebuild, but you will have a top cleanup hitter in LF Kelton and a top SP in Willis.  2nd or 3rd pick in the draft.

Charlotte: (86-76, 3rd place AL South): RESERVED

-Solid squad that didn't finish too far out of playoff contention.  Original owner this season bailed and the replacement owner did a good job, could have finished higher otherwise. Reasonable payroll.  You're starting with stud leadoff hitter Frazier, and one of the best catchers in SJ Gabriel.

Louisville: (95-67, 1st Place AL South): whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/FranchiseProfile.aspx RESERVED
-Perennial powerhouse.  Owner is reducing number of teams.  S20 Champion and  has been in the World Series 3 of the last 4 seasons.  Best all around position player in SJ Pedro Crespo, and Cy Young Candidate RP Ajax Huff surround a talent laden roster.

Salem: (90-72, 2nd Place AL West):

-
Back to back playoff appearances in S21 and 22, took a small step back this season. 38 or not, Bobby Reese is the best SP the league has ever seen.  Pair him with S22 Cy Young Joey Holmes and have one hell of a 1-2 punch.  Speaking of punches, don't forget ridiculous slugger Everth Martin.

New York: (50-112, 4th place AL East):  RESERVED

-Owner missed the league's minimum win rule.  To be fair, this franchise has been unlucky with injuries over the last few years and is probably better than its record.  Very low payroll committement and a few young MLs to build around.  You will have the 1st Pick in the Draft so the rebuild might not last long.

Houston: (88-74, 3rd place NL South): RESERVED

- Owner moving on.  This team has been steadily improving for years and has had back to back wild card appearances.  A good young core anchored by ace SP Torres and slugger C Martis.  Manageable payroll.  Definitely a team primed to make a run.

St. Louis: (68-94, 4th place NL South):

- Owner leaving HBD due to real life committments.  Long time SJ power has taken a step back in the last few years.  Definitely a rebuild.  Most of the salary committments come off the books in the next season or two and you will have the 9th pick in this years draft to start with.

Fargo (64-98, 4th place NL North): RESERVED
whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/FranchiseProfile.aspx
- Owner consolidating teams.  Franchise has been rebuilding for a few years so part of the job is done.  Some nice young ML players just starting including CF Meng and SP Winchester.  Minimal payroll.  7th Pick in the Draft.

Vancouver (74-88, 3rd Place AL West):

-Bit of a rebuild, but the previous owner has been working at it so some of the work is done.  Cabeza is one of the best SP in the Al.  Kennedy is getting a bit older, but is still one of the best for average hitters in SJ history.  Acquire a few more prospects and move some of the vets and you will be in contention before you know it.

Why Shoeless Joe?

Excellence: Shoeless Joe is consistently ranked amongst the top worlds in HBD.  Shoeless Joe was ranked #8 out of 161 total Hardball Dynasty Worlds (Green's World Rankings 4-20-10) and was ranked #16 out of 178 total Hardball Dynasty Worlds (dmurphy104's World Rankings 4-11-12).

Competition: We have not had a repeat champion since S13-14.  The last few years have seen new playoff teams and division winners.  Only 3 teams won 100 games, and they were just over.  We do have a win floor.

Community:
Shoeless Joe is part of a 3 world community along with BallPark Franks and Doubleday.  Many of the owners play in 2 or all 3 of the worlds and have been together for quite a while.  Years of drama free play.  Take the chance of joining something unique in HBD.

Stability: Most years see 4 openings or less and we generally take a few days to a week at most to roll. A solid core of owners have been with the world for 15+ seasons, and there is a another group with 10+ seasons.

Rules

Win Minimum: All teams must win at least 55 games each season to remain with the world.  Any team winning between 55-59 is placed on 2 years probation and must improve their win total by at least 5 each season.

Prospect Cap: No more than 30 million can be spend on prospects on any one season, to increase opportunity in the international market and incentivize owners to spend money on payroll

Cash in Trades: Cash in a trade cannot exceed the salary of the players being traded (eg. no buying players)

Maintain Minors: Minor leagues must be fully staffed and no long term pitchers at 0(0) will be tolerated

One open franchise has the #1 pick in the draft in this year and another open franchise has the #3 and #7 picks in the upcoming draft... Great chance to get in and build a team around a top prospect of two!
