One of the few remaining good guys in Hollywood. He served in the National Guard and the Merchant Marines before going to Korea and earning at least one Purple Heart in action. Married to the same woman for fifty-eight years and wasn't afraid to speak his mind and take on the studio execs. Sued them twice and won both times. One of the few actors who's known by several different generations - from "Maverick" in the 50's, to "The Rockford Files" in the 70's, to "The Notebook" and "Space Cowboys" from recent years.
