I don't have a dog in this fight, but it seems like a weird thing to argue about. The Yankees were first the Orioles, then the Highlanders, then the Yankees. Whether someone considers it a team move or a team folding and starting new in another city, is a matter of semantics.

It's like the Nationals/Expos. These Nationals were the Expos, even though the Expos were run by MLB for a period of time and then relocated by new ownership.

"...the Expos were taken hostage by MLB."

It's not like Nationals/Expos.    One FRANCHISE shut down, another FRANCHISE was created.   I won't get into it again but equate it to a Wal-Mart.   Wal-Mart has 100 stores.   They close one in Pittsburgh.   They now have 99 stores.  They open another in Philadelphia 8 months later.   WM now has 100 stores again.   But the Pitt store is not the Philly store even if a couple of employees move and take jobs in Philly.   Baltimore was disbanded.   Plain and simple.

Um, ok. It seems like a weird thing to care deeply about. As if it somehow diminishes the Yankee tradition if the team had been located somewhere else for a year or two at the turn of the century.

Looking at the 1902 Orioles wikipedia page (wikipedia is never wrong), it looks like the league treated the move as a relocation.

I assume you're making fun of BL.    Because, I've been vindicated by Baseball Reference and I'll take their word on baseball matters over Wiki's all day.

Wikipedia also says the Yankees were founded in 1901:

"One of the AL's eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles.[1] The team moved to New York City in 1903 and became the New York Highlanders, before taking "Yankees" as their official name in 1913.[2]"

It's semantics and not worth arguing.

I tend to agree with Mike on this one.  With minimal player continuity, it really seems very little like a move.  When the Expos moved to Washington, they retained their player contracts.

Correct and I'll stop.
