Adam Wright will likely redshirt. In addition to there being three other freshmen (one of last year's recruits redshirted), Wright's skills are pretty low compared to his classmates and he could use the extra year to develop. It's not like he's bad, though I wish his elusiveness was much higher. He'll turn into a good player and a good starter, but anything more is probably unreasonable to expect.

Potential: "He's got the potential to improve his game a lot over 4 years with us."

Robert McCauley's teammate in high school, William Evans is also a very good prospect. He's a well-rounded linebacker, and I love his athleticism, speed, and elusiveness. Once his game instinct and technique go up a bit (which they will), he'll be a pretty good player.

If William Evans is the guy who can play the pass, John Thomas is more of the conventional run-stopping linebacker. He's not as fast as Evans, but he's stronger and a better tackler. Thomas and Evans should have a lot of fun together going forward.

Larry Morales instantly becomes the fastest player on our team, and it's not all that close. He's a freak athlete, and also possesses solid scores in strength, elusiveness, and technique. I promised him a start as a sophomore, and he'll get it easily. I really like him, and I think he could be an impact player very early on.

Paul Hodge is overshadowed a bit by Morales, but he's also an excellent recruit. In addition to high ratings in speed and athleticism, he can also hit and catch, and his game instinct isn't bad, either. I really like him, and he'll be a big part of our defense.

Potential: "With your coaching, I think his game has a lot of room to grow."

Kenneth Crane has high ratings coming in, but his potential isn't great. He's a good player, and he'll wind up being a good starter down the line, but my expectations aren't in the straosphere like with Morales and Hodge.

Potential: "He's made good strides towards reaching his potential over the past couple years."

I was a little disappointed when the GUESS Reports put our recruiting class 30th in D2. Miller's ratings, though, probably dropped us a few spots on his own. Our roster is ranked 23rd, but we needed luck in defeating Sim-coached Kentucky Wesleyan in the opener.

Through six games, your Washburn-Topeka Ichabods are 4-2. Our two losses were blowouts to top-10 teams, including a 60-point loss at #1 Slippery Rock. However, we rebounded for a huge 19-11 win over then-#19 Central Missouri State today in our conference opener. This isn't a bad team, but the offense is sorely missing Roland Stubbs. It's able to move the ball, but our QB is a game manager-type, and that limits the explosiveness of the team. Fortunately, our defense has stepped up, especially against the run. Opponents are averaging 2.2 yards per carry, and while our pass defense isn't forcing turnovers, we ARE limiting quarterbacks to a 54% completion percentage, which is pretty good.

Ultimately, we probably need to win out to make the tournament. All but one of our remaining regular-season games are against Sim-coached teams, but the outlier is a game at #4 Cheyney that I don't expect to win. If everything breaks as it should, though, we'd finish up 10-3 with zero bad losses, and that's not bad for a rebuilding season with 17 scholarships to fill going in. We'd then need some help to make the postseason, though, and I'm not exactly betting the house on that.

As I sort of expected, we got beaten down by Cheyney. If the season stopped now, we would be squarely on the tournament bubble (WIS/Coaches #31, Press #32). We should win out, but it's not like any of these games would be quality wins (only one opponent is currently in the WIS top 100, and that's #86 Missouri-Rolla). Again, 10-3 is far from bad for a rebuilding season of sorts, but I'm not banking on a postseason appearance this year.

We did win out to finish 10-3 on the year (though we needed a lot of luck in a 17-15 win over a bad Sim to do it). As I expected, we're squarely on the bubble for a playoff appearance, and if we do make the tournament, we'll probably be a quick out. We're not bad, and we didn't have a bad season, but despite having no bad losses, we have very few great wins. The win over Central Missouri State (#25) is a boost, and Central Arkansas (#47) isn't bad, either, but we'll need a little bit of luck tomorrow to keep playing.

Coaches #30, WIS/Press #31.

We dodged a lot of bullets today in the conference title games, and somehow, some way, we're in the tournament. We WERE one of the last teams in, as I anticipated; we're the #8 seed in the West, and we'll play #2 Long Island. Here's a quick and dirty scouting report.

Team link: HERE
Head coach: jjl58 (25th season)
Record: 14-0
WIS/Press/Coaches: #2

Everything this team does, they do well. Their quarterbacks have thrown 65 touchdowns and zero interceptions, their rushing attack averages five yards per carry, and their defense has allowed eight touchdowns all season long despite playing in a pretty good conference. Chances are this won't be close; hopefully I'm wrong.

Additionally, running back Jonathan Moseley (2,656 rushing yards, 558 receiving yards, 29 total touchdowns) was an honorable mention on the All-America team.

As I anticipated, we got crushed by Long Island. Still, it's never bad when a rebuilding season ends in the playoffs. Senior retrospectives will come in the next few days.

Jonathan Moseley had huge shoes to fill this year, but did it and did so admirably. He was the focal point of the offense and wound up an honorable mention on the All-America team. Simply put, we'll miss him.

Juan Padilla was an efficient slot man as a junior and wound up a solid, if not spectacular, top option as a senior. If our QB play had been better, his final stats from this year would have been a bit better, but I'm happy with what he was able to do.

A three-year starter at tight end, Harry White was more of a blocker than a receiver, but he wasn't terrible when running routes and was a reasonable secondary option.
