James Floyd was a very good receiver, but his true calling was returning kicks and punts. By my count, he had seven returns for touchdowns this year, and it's tough to put a value on those kinds of plays. We've got some depth at wide receiver, but Floyd was very sharp in my system, and I'll miss him.

I never put much of an emphasis on the tight end, though Raymond Hale wasn't a bad player. He turned into a good blocker, and while he was a step slow, he wasn't a terrible receiver, either.

Our offensive line was a real strength this year, and Ronald David was a big reason for that. We've got depth on the line, but it's tough to replace players like him and Louis Goldman, who I'll get to in a moment.

Michael Barnett was a very, VERY good linebacker. He started for three years and was a real leader this past season, doing a little bit of everything. We had four senior linebackers this year, but he was by far the best one.

Joseph Chang grew into our #3 linebacker and played well, especially in pass coverage. He led the team in interceptions, and also wasn't bad playing the run.

Timothy Smith was a starter for us this year (though was mainly only appearing in our nickle and dime sets by the end of the year). He outplayed his so-so ratings and got a few big interceptions for us, although we're pretty deep at DB and should carry on without too much of an issue.

Randy Wilson was pretty remarkable. He was a stellar kicker all four years and got All-American recognition as a senior. He's just a kicker, but he had himself one heck of a career.

Edinboro wound up losing in the third round after another upset over Bryant, proving that they were underseeded by a pretty large margin.

I'll probably be eligible to move up after this season, but I'm 99% sure I'll be back next year. Our offense is going to be interesting given how much we lose to graduation, but we return nine of 11 starters on defense, including all four starting defensive linemen. We have the potential to be GREAT on defense next year, and I'm excited to see how good the unit can be with so much experience coming back.

New season, same job. I considered a couple of D1-AA jobs, but ultimately decided to stick around another year here in Topeka (the pull of such an experienced defense was too much). We're ranked #18 and #19 in the polls; let's see if we can make some noise once recruiting starts Sunday.

Mark Gutierrez will likely redshirt, as most of my QB recruits do. I wish his game instinct rating was higher, but everything else is just fine, and he'll have plenty of time to mature behind my two current QB's (one junior, one sophomore).
