Weekly Top 10 Review Topic

1.  FSU-Good offense, lousy D in beating Okie St.   Still a safe bet to go undefeated with only Clemson(who got smoked), ND(who wasn't very impressive in beating Rice) and Florida as the only decent teams on the schedule.
2.  Bama-Unimpressive over WV.   Up-tempo spread offenses still give the trouble.
3.  Oregon-Beat S. Dakota.   Big deal.
4.  Oklahoma-Beat LaTech.  Big deal.
5.  Ohio State-unimpressive over Navy.  Gave up 370 rushing yards.   Yuck.
6.  Auburn-tied at half against Ark.  Scored 24 in the 2nd half with Nick Marshall taking the snaps.  They might be tough.
7.  UCLA-Offense was horrible vs. VA.  3 defensive touchdowns in 28-20 win.
8.  Mich State-destroyed JaxSt.  Big deal.
9.  SCarolina-crushed by TAMU.  Defense stunk out loud.
10. Baylor-destroyed SMU.  Whoopde-do.

As it stands, the top 4 did nothing to move down.   Auburn should move up.   SC should disappear from the top 20.  GA should move into the top 10.

you have neglected to mention the recharged and dangerous program at Tennessee.....you should say they belong in the top 10, so that way when they get there, you can claim that you were the first to see it coming

I have them just outside the top 10.

fair enough....the Arkansas State game will be a much better indicator as to where this team stands

Top 4
1) Texas A&M
2) Georgia
3) LSU
4) Baylor
I sort of felt the 4 at the top were the best.  Not really ready to move them out based on 1 week.

I pretty much agree with your assessment of all of the top 10.

Should get some a better gauge of some of the top 10 (or near top 10) teams this weekend.  3 games to note.

  • MSU at Oregon (probably the biggest non-con game of the year with massive playoff implications for both teams)
  • Va Tech at OSU (should give a better feel for OSU with them facing a more traditional offense and another week for the young QB and OL)
  • USC at Stanford (should help sort out the Pac 12 a bit, is USC back, can Stanford maintain its recent run, etc.)

The only changes I'd make is flipflopping Auburn/OSU.   Drop SC out and put GA at 9.  I get the feeling that Baylor is in trouble, Petty hurt, but I'll hold out before moving them on out.

I believe in more fluid rankings. No one put together a better performance than Texas A&M beating SC on the road, they should be #1. You believe like the pollsters do, where you don't move down unless you lose.
9/2/2014 12:30 PM
No, I don't believe that.   I saw most of the TAMU game.    SC couldn't apply any rush or cover any receivers.    Guess what they lost in the off-season?   SC might just be bad defensively.   TAMU will have plenty of opportunity to move up.

If I had put up a poll before the season, it would have looked something like this:

FSU
Bama
Oregon
Auburn
Oklahoma
Mich State
UCLA
SC
Baylor
GA/LSU

I'd have dropped OSU due to Miller's injury.  The only game I saw that changed my mind was TAMU/SC.  TAMU is in there with LSU/Stanford/USC/ND just on the outside looking in.

New Coaches Poll
1. FSU
2. Bama
3. Oregon
4. Oklahoma
5. Auburn
6. MSU
7. OSU
8. Georgia
9. Baylor
10. Stanford

UCLA despite winning on the road dropped from 7 to 11.

Only real test is MSU/Oregon.

FSU/Bama/OK/Auburn should get plenty of 2nd team reps.   GA is off.    OSU should cruise at home.   TAMU/Baylor also playing nobodies.

Just outside the top 10, Stanford/USC and ND gets a chance to prove they have something against Michigan.
9/4/2014 8:30 AM

1,  FSU-beats Citadel.   Big deal.
2.  Bama-beats Florida Atlantic.  Big deal.
3.  Oregon-played a tough game early, took over in the 2nd half.   Pretty impressive.
4.  Oklahoma-beat Tulsa.  Big deal.
5.  Auburn-beats San Jose State.  Big deal.
6.  Georgia-off.
7.  Michigan State-see Oregon.
8.  Ohio State-beat by VaTech at home.  Moving on out.
9.  TAMU-beat up Lamar.  Big deal.
10.  Baylor-beat NW State.  Big deal.

Michigan State and Ohio State are out.   UCLA, USC and Stanford were not impressive.  LSU and ND move in to the top 10.   The Big 10 is likely eliminated for a playoff spot.  Nebraska snuck by McNeese State, Purdue lost to Central Michigan, Michigan destroyed by ND and OSU/MSU less than impressive in their losses.  There just won't be any quality wins in conference play.
