Are we pretending that Minny, who you said would likely finish 7-5, is a good team?
11/19/2014 11:11 AM
Minny is 7-3, I think there is a pretty good chance they lose their last 2 games and thus finish 7-5, but they haven't actually played the last 2 games yet.  Maybe they split them, maybe they win them both and play Ohio State again for the Big Ten title.  Who the hell knows.  But as of now they are ranked.  next week if they lose to Nebraska they won't be.  I also have no idea what would happen if Minnesota and A&M were to play a game next weekend.  Maybe Minnesota wins that game.  It isn't like you could learn anything from A&M in their games against Lamar, SMU, UL Monroe, or Rice.

At the end of the day, your argument has to be:
1.  OSU won their conference
2.  OSU looks like the better team

You can't possibly think OSU played a tougher schedule.   Even when you're wearing your Buckeye Underoos.

This.

Stop acting like 25th Minnesota, who should lose their last two or that will expose the B10 as being even weaker, is some prize victory to parade around.    They aren't.

Is Michigan State a better win than any that Mississippi State has on its schedule?

If Auburn/MSU played on a neutral field, I'd take Auburn.    Depending on which LSU/TAMU/MSU shows up, I might take both SEC teams over MSU.

Are you going to cherrypick until I say "You're right.  OSU had a tougher road than Miss State"?    Because, if that's what you're driving at, it won't happen.

Part of the article, but the basic gist is the inconsistency of the committee and its willingness to overlook certain things for one team, but not for another

And since that loss to Virginia Tech, Ohio State has been nearly flawless. The Buckeyes are 8-0 and have won by an average of 28 points -- the top scoring margin for any Power 5 team during that span. Its opponents’ winning percentage during that time is better than that of Oregon, Florida State, Mississippi State and TCU -- teams all ranked ahead of Ohio State. It has toppled two ranked teams in Michigan State and Minnesota. It has scored 49 points or more six times.

Can we make a rule that moranis just isn't ever allowed to talk about Ohio State?

The article shows that you can make the numbers say what you want them to say. "Yeah they lost to VT at home, but they kicked the **** out of Kent St and teams in a lousy Big 10. PUT THEM IN THE PLAYOFF!!!"

He can talk about Ohio State.    But he has to understand the rest of us don't have a shrine to Woody Hayes in house.   So we're able to take a more objective look at them .  They're about right where they should be.   Just on the outside looking in.  Hoping something happens to one of the other teams so the door will crack open.

Oddly enough, if there were 8 teams, the top 7 would be pretty cut and dry(assuming they win out) and about 9 that would be arguing, moranis-like, that they deserve the 8th spot.     This season, 8 would create a bigger mess than 4.

Great moment in OSU history:

this article brushes over the fact that they beat ucla and utah on the road and has nothing to say about why they are better fit then miss st and tcu.
personally im not in love with miss st and i think they belong in 5th or 6th. no way you look at it with a non biased mind and say they be ahead of tcu but i see the argument for miss st.  also 15-30ish all seem to be in the same boat so i dont understand why they make a win over #15 so much bigger than beating an unranked team who is right on the end of getting in. (by this im talking about lsu, WV, A&M, ok st. vs nebraska, minnesota, clemson)

and yet OSU's opponents win percentage since Va Tech is better than Oregon, FSU, MSU, and TCU.  As we all know once you hit conference play teams go .500, but the Buckeyes opponents have been better than the other teams right ahead of them (except Bama).  That is part of the point.  Maybe OSU's schedule isn't as bad as it is being made out to be.

According to Sagarin, OSU's schedule is currently 47th and MSU's is currently 32nd.  Obviously OSU doesn't have a team like Alabama on the schedule, but MSU lost to Alabama so it isn't a win its favor either.  Ohio State has Indiana, Michigan, and likely Wisconsin while Mississippi State has Vanderbilt and Ole Miss.  Overall schedule strength will slightly favor MSU, but if you look at win quality, OSU will have the edge as Michigan St. will be the best win of the group and Auburn, Ole Miss, and Wiscy will all be in the same general range if there are no upsets in their games.

The SEC West is good, but Miss St will have also played the two weakest teams from the SEC East and a terrible non-con schedule.  It didn't do itself any favors in its scheduling.

This is your post, correct?  47th would be middle third of CFB.    And, with Indiana/Michigan to close out the season, it might just end up in bottom half.
