Paul Westhead Tribute League - Waitlist Topic

I have always been fascinated by the 1990-91 Denver Nuggets coached by Paul Westhead. Sure, they were horrible. But they were horrible in a fascinating way; and one we will probably never see again in the NBA. That season they averaged almost 120 points per game and gave up almost 131. I would like to honor this aberration of a team by creating a league that promotes freewheeling, defense-last basketball.

There will be three main rules to this league:

1) All teams must run an up-tempo offense
2) No player on your roster can have a defense rating above 40
3) Teams will either gain or lose wins at the end of the year based on where they rank in points/game. Hopefully this will encourage owners to try to run up the score The breakdown is as follows:

1st place: +6 wins
2nd and 3rd place: +4 wins
4th and 5th place: +3 wins
6th and 7th place: +2 wins
8th-10th place: +1 win
11th-14th place: no change
15th-17th place: -1 win
18th and 19th place: -2 wins
20th and 21st place: - 3 wins
22nd and 23rd place: - 4 wins
24th place: -6 wins

Cap - 45M
Rookies, WW, clones - NO
Trades - YES

Hopefully I can get enough owners to join this one. I know it's asking a lot for a basketball theme league, but I hope this is a fun and open-ended enough idea to fly.

how would you add or subtract the wins?...admin?
11/18/2014 3:42 PM
Yeah. I've done it before in other leagues. I adjust the records myself and then send a ticket to admin to let them know which teams should be in the playoffs.

Hmm I'll give this league a shot..

Sounds like a great idea, but I'd kick up the defense up to 35 or 40.  There are not many players with high efg% below 30 and only one with a high assist %.  Kind of defeats the purpose of a high scoring league.  Between 30 and 40 defense you add a ton of high efg% and assist% players to the mix, which will add much more offense than you lose from the increase in defense. Plus you get more diverse teams.

Kinoa, I agree. I'm happy to up the maximum defensive rating to 40. Can we count you in?

Sure thing.  :)  I'll definitely join.

Cool. Let's keep this going.

Having grown up in Denver, I suffered through the Doug Moe years and REALLY suffered through the Paul Westhead years.

Now that the D ceiling is at 40, I'm in.

I was messing around with this in the draft center. It seems that $48 mill is a little high. Anyone else already playing with rosters? Do you agree or think it's just right? I'm in either way.
11/25/2014 9:40 PM
I've never been in a league with trades. How does that work?
11/25/2014 9:41 PM
I think 48m is ok, though I messed around and consistently got close to or over 20k minutes.  I would say 47m would be ideal and 46m would add some challenge.  That said, I'm not opposed to leaving it at 48m.
