There's a theater in Texas that's going to show "Team America" for free on Christmas - fantastic.
Paramount has pulled this movie. The theater in Texas is not allowed to show it.

Sigh.

...of course, since we are so much in debt to the handler, thanks to the reckless borrowing that Obama has done in the past 6 years, we are on a leash to China too.
You realize that the debt isn't equity, right. China doesn't own us. In reality, the more debt of ours they own, the more control we have. Their interests become tied to ours.
But if we don't play ball with them, Obama can't get his money from them.
Um, no. We already have their money. If they don't play ball, they don't get their money back.
So we have a balanced budget then.  Thanks for letting me know.
We don't need China to finance a deficit. We buy most of our own debt.

Maybe you should call the Obama administration and tell them they're wrong for calling this a freedom of speech or expression issue.

Let us know what they say.

So you think we should always defer to the administration's public statements?

Sounds good. I didn't realize you were such a big fan of Obama.

Tec - If someone believes their freedom of speech rights are being violated, what is the legal remedy? What option do they have to restore the right?

SHOOT THEM.

Oh wait, that's something else.

That's not fair. You can't just shoot them. First, you have to ask them to do something. Then, if they refuse to do what you tell them to do, you shoot them. Also, if they quickly do what you tell them to do, you shoot them.

North Korea does not fall under the jurisdiction of the U.S. legal system.

I guess that means we should just "do nothing".

Yeah, I'm a big fan.  But I wish he was more liberal.

I asked for suggestions.  I think something should be done.  But I can't think of anything.  "Nothing" might be the best option.

Not necessarily. But it does mean that it isn't a free speech issue. Sony is free to release the movie.

I see four public options:

1) Do nothing.
2) Give a strongly worded, yet empty, speech
3) Give a strongly worded speech that contains actual demands and/or threats
4) Attack North Korea

Option 4 is insane. Option 3 probably leaves us with the choice of making good on our threats (option 4) or not backing them up when they get us nowhere (Option 2).

Option 2 sucks.

Option 1 isn't great but it avoids all the **** in the other three.

Did the administration tell Sony they were not free to release the movie?

Interesting, now we're getting somewhere. That would be a free speech issue if the administration forbid a studio from releasing a movie.

Why don't we just flood the internet with the movie anyway, and email everyone in North Korea free streaming sites?

It's the 21st century equivalent of dropping propaganda pamphlets.

Free speech, in this sense, deals with the government limiting it.  The US government isn't limiting it.

HOWEVER, North Korea has threatened us, and in a sense, IS limiting our free speech. You're both right. It's kind of a silly argument to have.
