DECADE DRAFT LEAGUE 3--Back to the 60's!!

So you call yourself an NFL fan, right?  You know what Drew Brees majored in at Purdue.  You know what dog Russell Wilson owns.  You are such an NFL fan that you know what Jamaal Charles eats for breakfast.

You know it all about today's football, but what do you know about Spec Sanders???  You are a genius about today's NFL but you probably think Steve Van Buren is a former US President, right?  You are pretty sure you used to wear Jim Taylor high top sneakers when you were a kid.  You hear the name "Maynard", and you think to yourself, "that's a kind of duck, right?"

Yeah, you love NFL football, but let's face it, how much do you really know about the NFL stars of the past?  This league is your chance to step into that time machine, and head back to the different decades in NFL history.  You will have the chance to use players, defenses and Offensive lines that you would never normally use in a typical "open" league.  Most importantly, you will learn a lil' something about NFL history.

This will work just like the regular NDL.  Each team will draft eight spots, and MUST have one QB, one RB, two WR's, one TE, one Offensive line and one Defense.  The eighth pick can be a QB, RB, WR or TE.

Here are the two differences between the NDL and the NDDL:

1.  Defenses and Offensive lines are NOT exclusive.  There are not enough quality units to be exclusive and still be fair in the 1960's, so each owner will be drafting a specific season for each.  No one else may then draft THAT SEASON of THAT TEAM.

2.  The salary cap for each team will be $65 million, instead of the $75 mill the regular NDL uses.  This is due to the fact that there are fewer choices in a decade and fewer high contracts.  $65 million should still give a nice balance between great defenses and top notch offensive talent.

--All offensive skill players WILL be exclusive to the team that drafts them.  In other words, in the 60's, only ONE owner will be able to draft Otis Taylor.  Only one owner will be able to draft Bart Starr.  Only one can draft Johnny Unitas, and so on.

--There will be NO clones!  Once a player is drafted, no other owner can use ANY seasons of that player.

--Once the draft is completed after those eight rounds, each owner fills out their team with any players WHO WERE NOT DRAFTED.  It doesn't matter if more than one owner takes these undrafted players.

--To further get into the spirit of the decades, each team MUST be named after a musical artist/hit song/album name of the decade.  You may use a singers name, album name, band name or hit song in your team name, anything, as long as it's musically related to that decade time period.  (my 90's team name will be "MC Hammer"--a popular artist from the 90's)

We will begin the Decade Draft League with the 1940's and 1950's (1941-1959).  This will be the only "double decade" DDL. Here is the randomized order of each decade draft league and the order we will do them:

1.  1940's and 50's--Champion:  bubbawit
2.  1990's--Champion:  gencoimports
3.  1960's
4.  1980's
5.  1970's
6.  2000-present (the new millenium)

All decades from this league on out will be 0-9 (1960-1969, 1970-1979, and so on)

So, lets start up that time machine...dial in the 40's and 50's...and strap in.  Serious drafters please!  Don't sign up unless you can check your sitemails at least once a day and at least follow the draft somewhat so you have some idea of when you are picking or at least know how to use a proxy pick list!

Hey, amerk!  I would love to do this...the '60s are probably (no, definitely) my favorite football decade.  But I'll be out of the country beginning from this Sunday through March 25th.  I won't have reliable internet access and wouldn't want to hold up the draft.

So, count me in if you think it will take a while to get the draft up and running, but if I'm in danger of slowing things down then you should boot me in favor of a replacement.

Fair enough, amerk.  Your call, hoss.  I'd love to get in on this, and will count on you to give my place to someone else if there's an opportunity to get going sooner.
