I can't believe 5 people have voted for "limit pitching changes."  I could see "limit the number of pitchers on the roster" in order to achieve the same goal, maybe.  But limit pitching changes?  You guys like watching injuries?  If you limit pitching changes, and due to injury, illness, or ineffectiveness you have to pull your starter early, you're just asking for a bullpen guy to get hurt.
I didn't vote for it but I don't think it's ridiculous. Preventing managers from La Russa'ing through the 6th/7th/8th innings with platoon specialists would probably increase offense, at least a little.

I don't think it would increase injuries. We wouldn't be talking about forcing a set-up guy to throw 3 innings a night.
How do you know?  Like I said, sometimes circumstances are unfortunate.  If you want to have a strict enough limit on the number of pitchers used in a game to prevent "La Russa'ing," the number can't possibly be higher than 5.  If you're starter goes 7, that still gives you 2 guys per inning in the last 2.  Even if he goes 5 you get a guy per inning.  But if he gets hurt in the first, your bullpen is going to be used in ways to which they aren't accustomed.  Period.  The intention isn't to force a setup guy to go 3+.  And what are the rules for extra innings?  What if you're on your last pitcher and the game ends up going 17?
Silliness.   No way would it be enacted without some "injury" exceptions.    All that happens is the pitcher calls out the trainer, when the manager wants to make a move, putzes around for 10 minutes and finally leaves the game with "back tightness".     So, instead of the 5 minute pitching change, it becomes 15.

Requiring every pitcher to face a minimum of 3 batters, with the exception of injuries, seems pretty reasonable to me.

Lots of "tightness" that is fine the next day.

I doubt it will happen, but OK, let them pretend to be injured. All that happens in that worst case scenario is nothing changes from what we have now.

You could just put a rule in that if a pitcher is removed from a game due to injury, prior to them reaching a minimum amount of batters, that they have to put on the DL.

Or even as little as they can't pitch the next day. That's enough to prevent the crazy 6 or 7 pitcher 9-inning games we're getting.

Not a fan of that. I doubt faking injuries would be an issue. I think it would be obvious if it was happening and the league would probably do something behind the scenes to stop it.

Then you have managers/pitchers trying to face the minimum when they are actually injured.

Yeah, lawsuits waiting to happen.   MLB doesn't need that.

Eh, pitchers are already required to face one batter, even when there's a pinch hitter. We don't see guys faking injuries when the platoon advantage goes away. I doubt we'd see it when 3 batters are required.

Why did the dumbass running this thread redline my on-topic post?

I think those building teams need to adjust their offense to the way pitching and the defensive shift has changed the game. Draft more speed guys like a Billy Hamilton. The HR is less prevalent now. Find guys who can drop bunts for hits and steal bases and provide superior range in the field to prevent hits. Basically we are seeing the game go full circle back to the early days of the game. There will still be power guys, but equally hitters that can produce doubles will be as important as those that hit the long ball. Once players start dropping bunts for hits against the shift, we will see the shift used less perhaps.

Read an article in SI a couple of weeks ago.   Bumgarner averages 92 MPH on his fastball and releases it from 54 feet away from contact.   98 MPH makes it seems like 50 feet.    With teams using so many RP that can crank mid-upper 90s, the hitters swinging from their heels just don't have a chance because they're only seeing a pitcher twice.    The next article was how the Giants changed their approach to making contact a priority.    I expect more teams to change philosophy.
