So much for that hot start. 96th place it will be.

I started off 12-6 and it went way downhill for a while, including an L11 for my 140M team. Dropped as low as 72nd, I think.

I've finally crept back over .500 at .505 and into 42nd. I feel like it's at least possible to pull out a respectable finish.

It's really a bizarre experience playing Wink's teams. I didn't build these teams and as a result, I have no emotional attachment to them. In fact, he picked players that I would never use in a million years (i.e., RPs with 0.6 ip/g). In the 70M and 80M themes, he has no full-time players but 12-13 part-time players, all who play like 5 different positions. I have to change the lineup after every f'in game due to multiple players fatiguing. It's a complete nightmare to micro-manage.

That being said, I am so damn competitive, that I still want to win.

My advice, other than to start drinking heavily, is to play more themes, regardless of salary cap. You will learn by trial and error, but you will also improve by watching what others do, whether it's good or bad. Don't ever hesitate to think outside the box. Edison said he didn't fail 2,000 times making a light bulb. He found 2,000 ways how not to make the light bulb. Perserverence is necessary...

Read the pinned threads, the how to's. They are invaluable. We all continue to learn....

Always try to get the most out of what you have to spend. As you can see, this is competitive as hell. Spend every penny wisely. Try to get quality over quantity whenever possible. Don't buy what you don't need. Ever...

If nothing else I am determined to work within a budget, sticking to $/PA and $/IP. You can spend a bit more on an ace, or a key bat, but keep a framework in mind.

When all else fails, have contrarian23 rate your teams, he has nothing better to do than to offer assistance, and he has a 24-7 hotline, operators are standing by..;)

He might still have a stockpile of free teams to give away. You'll have to check...

Rule V and Teamhydro's TOC league are good practice...both have openings.

Contrarian23's $60M Open style league would be quite a challenge too.

Why come to me, when you can have Doc do it? After all, he's ahead of me in the standings....so whose advice do you actually want?

I remember he had a 24 hour marathon a few years back where he asked every newbie to send him all their rosters so he could offer advice. Turned out to be so popular, he extended it for a month. And offered free teams to the owners who asked him the best questions.

Maybe if we all pester him enough, he'll do it again....

Yeah we even gave out cowboy hats and six shooters...

They don't want my advice, I'm way too cranky, and set in my ways. I'm too busy anyway. The crazy Asian woman always has something for us to do. She's a Far East version of Charo, if anyone remembers her...
