Round 1 Themes, 2022 Topic

I'm going to sound like such a newbie, but can someone post a link for the broader "theme" list of ballparks? The one on the Team Center is just for open leagues of course. Thanks.

A suggestion for everyone when building teams before league numbers come out, instead of just picking open league in the draft center if you create a theme league with the right salary cap then you get the full ballpark list and also can use the Cash Left search when finalizing your roster. You can also choose the DH option for the two DH leagues so the DH position is staring you in the face and its harder to forget about the need for it.

Thanks GSP for the link - and good suggestions.

GSP - are you taking volunteers for commissioners yet? You can count me in for one of the spots when the time comes

Just so I have full clarification (regarding the $140M theme):

Is it the case that the $20 million player can either be on your roster once or four times, but not 3 times?

I.e. Player X is $20 million or more... in order to have any more instances of Player X on my team, I would have to roster 3 additional versions of him, and not two?

This is an important question because there are some players (with an instance that costs $20 million or more) that I might be interested in rostering 3 times, but not 4.

Also, if it is possible to roster Player X exactly 3 times, with one of them being $20 million or more, that opens up the possibility that one non-cloned player could cost <$20 million. Is this possible or would that be prohibited?

you start with 8 players and clone them so you have 3 versions of each player. there are no restrictions at all on the salaries, years or anything else for those players.

then you pick a $20 million player who is not a 19th century pitcher. that player can be the same as one of your eight cloned players but does not have to be.

$140M: Trip Eights and the Big Joker

Choose eight players. You will clone each of those eight players exactly three times. The 25th player on your roster must cost at least $20 million and cannot be a 19th century pitcher.

Seasons: All
DH: Yes
Clones: Yes
Ballpark: All
After finishing this build, I wish the Big Joker would've been >$15M or >$17M as it would have given a lot of good options for pitchers that weren't deadballers, and hitters that weren't Ruth. You're extremely limited on who the Joker is

working on these rosters... i think that's what makes it a big joker...

80 mil question: "every player must be from a different franchise."

I'm assuming that the standard franchise continuity rule on this applies? For example Expos and Nationals are same franchise?

correct

$120M: Bombs or Bloopers By Decade

Choose exactly two players from each of the following 12 decades:
  • 1900-09
  • 1910-19
  • ...
  • 2010-19
and choose exactly one wild card player from either 1885-1899 or 2020-2021. You must spend at least $1 million per decade, including the wild card.

There are only two ballparks available: Target Field and Yankee Stadium (III). To prevent deadball pitcher stacking, there is a $15 million maximum for pitchers from 1885-1919.

Seasons: All
DH: No
Clones: No
Ballpark: Target Field, Yankee Stadium (III)
Now that I’ve worked on one, a Yankee Stadium team is going to be hard to resist. Gotta question how competitive it will be

Really enjoyed putting these teams together. Am very interested in seeing how the 80M, 100M, and 140M come out:

-- The two main rules of the 80M (1920-2021 season range; min $1M per player) effectively mean that these teams should look quite different from a typical OL team.
-- Very curious to see how many owners go pitching-heavy vs hitting-heavy in the 100M
-- So many different ways to go with the 140M...will be interesting to see how diverse the rosters are.
