Second dagger for ermocito

I went round and round with this pick because there isn't anyone on the 58 Orioles that is important to this team. In fact when I looked at his team, I said, please don;t have me dagger the 58 O's but I knew he would because all the other teams had easy people to dagger.

So my first idea was Gus Triandos who would be the second catcher daggered, and that would leave his only catcher option as Rookie of the Year Johnny Bench. I thought this was okay until I saw Bench had 40 doubles and with guys like Appling and Rose at the top of the lineup, those doubles would be killers.

Then I went with the backup shortstop Castleman, even though he has another guy at 700k also, but I thought he might want to use both of them. Problem with that is he would use another White Sox instead which would ease the pressure of getting six Chisox onto the team, and it would only cost 1.2 million.

I thought of fourth outfielder Nieman, but Woodling is about the same for about the same price.

I thought of Hoyt Wilhelm with his .86 WHIP and a bargain at 1.8 million though only 44 innings, but the Braves have another 44 inning reliever with a 1.03 WHIP and is a bit cheaper, and I didn't think he could go with two 40 inning pitchers on a 10 man staff.

After doing roster after roster I settled on a guy that no matter how I messed with the roster, he was included in it.

Don't know if this will hurt at all, but the dagger falls on

Arnie Portocarrera (P)

If I only put a little thought into it....

Very thorough, and you figured out why you were not offered the ChiSox.

Dead on for Triandos, Wilhelm & Nieman (I will use Nieman but workarounds would have been easy).

I will end up using two cheap SS and playing Appling at SS. ChiSox = mop up, mostly.

The only way to avoid Portocarrera was to use Harshman, but I think I found a way to afford him (instead of Rose, probably) - so the dagger rebound is still nice.

Ribbentrop- Feel free to dagger the 1948 St. Louis Browns.
23 seay00 ... 38 Cubs, 48 Browns, 78 Indians, 78 Tigers

First of all Pitching 1948 St. Louis Browns

Seems 1948 Sam Zoldak Or 1948 Cliff Fannin Possible SP but neither very good --- stats later if needed

Already see 1938 Bill Lee 1938 Clay Bryant 1938 Charlie Root 1978 Rick Waits 1978 Dave Rozema available
All seem to be uniformly Or median low 3ish ERC# 3.11-17 and 1 3.29 --- SP subpar but 1948 putrid and no help ... Just by glancing RPs available non 1948 above average

Catcher --- Good with 1938 Gabby Hartnett (377) and multiple combinations there sin 1948 but 1948 Les Moss (404) quite good

1B --- 1938 Ripper Collins (592) and 1978 Andre Thornton (629) and 1978 Jason Thompson (669) Only Listed at 1B ... But 1948 has just only 2 Ninnies Listed costing $1,716,113 and $1,537,839 Lucky You !

2B --- I would use the 2B B/A+ (.981/5.92)
1938 Billy Herman Chicago Cubs Position: 2B Salary: $5,693,741
Not to mention 1978 Lou Whitaker (567) ...
Interestingly enough Ninny 1978 Steve Dillard Detroit Tigers Position: 2B Salary: $526,218 Daggered !!
And lastly 1978 Duane Kuiper (601) The Plebe Of the Class and costing Salary: $3,156,545 with RC27 3 OPS# .649 B-/D+ (.979/5.01)
Actually other 2B 1948 Jerry Priddy St. Louis Browns Position: 2B Salary: $5,485,378 quite a plum
(696) RC27 6 with OPS# 8.23 and C/A- (.968/5.68)
So every 2B only Listed there at Second Base ...

So it seems to complete the planned (Dillard 2B Daggered) fait accompli I should look no further

and Dagger 1948 2B Jerry Priddy following the logic of the First Dagger

So spending at 2B $3,156,545 for say 1978 Duane Kuiper and either $4,257,968 Whitaker or $5,693,741 Herman

BeAllEndAll - 68 Indians, 88 Braves, 38 Bees, 88 Brewers
1st Dagger - Jim Hitchcock - SS -
stadium dagger - Braves field

My task was to dagger another player from the 38 Bees. The first dagger was a good one by removing the only cheap SS sub he will be forced to roster two crappy SS for more than they are worth.

My evaluation of this team is that they are going to struggle with offense in a severe way. Their pitching will be excellent.

So looking at this team position by position....

C - No real dagger options here becasue he has other catchers and combinations of subs that are better

1B - I could dagger Elbie Fletcher who is cheap and has a 5RC27. However, Gerald Perry is about the same.

2B - Tony Cuccinello is an option but he is not better than Gant or Gantner.

3B - Two sucky options but one is a potentially cheap sub. However, he has another cheap sub in Riles but it would force him to pick another player from this crappy team.

SS - already daggered one of them and it doesn't help to roster Rabbit over anyone else he has.

OF - This is interesting. He is going to need to roster Yount and probably Deer but he needs another OF and the options here are Vince "the third" Dimaggio or Debs Garms. Dimaggio is not good but Garms provides a solid avg, obp, and 5RC27. He only gives 500 PAs but that is better than anyone else he has. I could also dagger his only cheap sub that is left and force him to roster a platoon that spends a little more.

Pitching - He has a couple of options he could go with here. The best is MacFayden but he doesn't really strike fear in the hearts of batters so probably not a dagger option.

I was torn between daggering Garms or cheap sub Maggert but every time I roster it I would rather have Garms bat than any platoon combo I could come up with. It also takes away about the only real useful offensive player on this team. Therefore, I dagger OF - Debs Garms.

Good luck

_jwillis for your 2nd dagger, I think it has to be OF Hank Sauer or SP Johnny Vander Meer. I thought about C Dewey Williams as well, but that would just cost you money and you wouldn't lose out on an impact player. What is the point of that? You can find a way to make it work even losing 500K or a mil.

The 48 Reds pitching is really bad. SP Ken Raffensberger could be a 4th starter, although he is a little skimmy on IP to take the ball every 4th day. I doubt you will have enough cash (or would desire) to land Knucksie Phil Niekro from the Braves. If you do, it will require a lot of downsizing at your hitting positions. I'd guess that SP Figueroa and the Goose are must-haves from the Yanks. You did get 2 or 3 SP's with your 2nd pick of the New York baseball Giants. I still think JVM would be your best 2nd starter. Therefore, it behooves me to take him out. I must say Sauer is a bargain for sure, albeit its more important to ensure teams get to your long relief and set up guys often. Let them routinely ruin the game with too much ground to cover to get to the closer Goose. So........ LETS DO IT FOR JOHNNY! Bye Johnny Vander Meer.

Two more secondary daggers complete - I think all the first daggers have landed but a couple of people still need to offer teams for 2nd dagger.

More than a couple of teams are fully approved (see page 1). I will be sending out MLB numbers backchannel over the weekend to those with approved teams.

My hope is that we get all the daggers thrown over the weekend so that we can getting into the league by Monday and playing games by mid-week. I hope that works out!

C_Burns04 - Time for the final dagger from your 1988 White Sox.

The 88 White Sox are not very good (below avg. at the plate and lower on the hill) but knowing you have to have 6 of them and looking at the teams you have doesn't present too many obvious options. That could be both good and bad for you when building your team. A very nice choice by your neighbor for sure.

Your first choice of the Reds is solid as they present options.

The Angels staff sucks but you get Bryan Harvey and some decent choices at the plate.

The Tigers have options at the plate but an expensive starter at Hal Newhouser and OK with 2 other SP's but the rest are garbage.

Onto the White Sox - O. Guillen is a nice fielder with great D. Concepcion from the Reds is nice but forcing you to choose other White Sox bats is intriguing.

Your Pitching seems to be the tough spot in making your roster IMHO. I could take away a Harold Baines but his crappy D-/D- defense I might not be intrigued to remove him.

I have come down to hurting the staff as I think O. Guillen at the plate isn't so terrifying so if your chose him you can have good D doesn't hurt as much as limiting your pitching options.

I am therefore taking out LHP Dave LaPoint - he is has the best advanced stats and would like you to have to choose the from that horrific staff to make your team.

whalers10,
There's not much hitting help on this team other than a decent hitting, good fielding Chet Lemon but you have other options at OF. There are 3 relief pitching options but the best value is Mike Proly so, I will dagger him.
