Stickball League HOF Committee Topic

McKain was a great catalyst for my offense when I had him. Home runs should not be the one and only factor in a great player. John Servais has as good a stats as a few current HOF players and should be voted in this year. It may be his last chance.

HoF Google doc is updated:

My initial thought are this (my opinion)
Locks
Shane Giles (not sure where he came from, played long ago)

Others for discussion:
Renato Viriato (7 AS to go along with good stats and 1 ring)
Bridger Presley (5 AS with 4 WSR and stats are Ok)
John Servais (Comparable stats to other 2B)
Diego Trinidad (2 MVP, 3 WSR, only decent stats for 1B)
Jesse Hammond (4GG at SS, 7 AS, 2 SS, not very good overall stats)
Gabriel McKain (over a 1000 SB's)

Quick update on Importance Scores for those mentioned by bigdogs:

Shane Giles: 7.6 w/Estimated WAR
Renato Viriato: 5.8 w/Estimated WAR
Bridger Presley: 11.2 w/Estimated WAR
John Servais: 14.4 w/Park Adjusted WAR
Diego Trinidad: 13.5 w/Estimated WAR
Jesse Hammond: 2.1 w/Estimated WAR
Gabriel McKain: 7.9 w/Park Adjusted WAR

Based on that information, I would prioritize them in the following order:

John Servais: 14.4 w/Park Adjusted WAR (Definitely getting my vote)
Gabriel McKain: 7.9 w/Park Adjusted WAR (getting my vote this year until I find a better option)
Diego Trinidad: 13.5 w/Estimated WAR (getting my vote this year until I find a better option)
Bridger Presley: 11.2 w/Estimated WAR (getting my vote this year until I find a better option)
Shane Giles: 7.6 w/Estimated WAR (getting my vote this year until I find a better option)
Renato Viriato: 5.8 w/Estimated WAR
Jesse Hammond: 2.1 w/Estimated WAR

I think John Servais should be a lock this year.

I say we lock John Servais and Bridger Presley only. We've done a good job and don't need to push for any of the others.

I will probably, personally, vote just as Bruinsfan has it listed up above, so for me it is:

1. John Servais (2B)
2. Bridger Presley (SP)
3. Diego Trinidad (1B)
4. Shane Giles (SP)
5. Gabriel "I am the Greatest" McKain (LF)

With Giles and Servais in, the top five from my list last year would be:

  1. Gabriel McKain: 7.9 Importance Score (based on Park Adjusted WAR)
  2. Diego Trinidad: 13.5 Importance Score (based on Estimated WAR)
  3. Bridger Presley: 11.2 Importance Score (based on Estimated WAR)
  4. Renato Viriato: 5.8 Importance Score (based on Estimated WAR)
  5. Jesse Hammond: 2.1 Importance Score (based on Estimated WAR)
So, the next step in my research is going to be getting finalized Park Adjusted WAR totals for Trinidad, Presley, Viriato and Hammond until/unless there are other names I should look into. Let me know!

McKain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

... anyway, I don't care about anyone else. I only want to see McKain get in. (-jk)

Honestly, the reason I have McKain listed as #1 is because his is the only score with Park Adjusted WAR and is therefore the most accurate...I suspect those guys will overtake him once I do out the math.

We have 2 first ballot HoF from Fargo this year (in my opinion)

Carlos Calles
Player Profile: Carlos Calles - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports
Carlos Chantres
Player Profile: Carlos Chantres - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports

Do we need to do an importance score??

I will happily vote for both of them without doing the math...after doing the (very rough) math, Chantres is far and away the most qualified candidate we've had since I joined the Committee and Calles is deserving but Nunez actually ended up with more Estimated WAR. Therefore, my suggestion would be to recommend all three (Chantres, Calles and Nunez) as locks.

Yep, I'm for locking those three as well. (And I will cast one of my extra votes to McKain, lol).

Good work there, BTW. I think this is making the votes very easy for the rest of us.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't think McKain is on the ballot this year....here is what I have in the draft of my blog post:

Once voting started, the following guys were mentioned across World Chat and in the HOF discussion forum, so I shifted my focus to them: Carlos Calles, Carlos Chantres, Yan Nunez and George Paul. The first step was to calculate Estimated Career WAR totals for each of them so that I can convert them into Importance Scores. Calles checks in at 53 Estimated WAR, Chantres at 204 Estimated WAR, Nunez at 54 Estimated WAR and Paul at 46 Estimated WAR. Based on those numbers, my list now looks like this:
  1. Gabriel McKain: 7.9 Importance Score (based on Park Adjusted WAR)
  2. Carlos Chantres: 32.2 Importance Score (based on Estimated WAR)
  3. Diego Trinidad: 13.5 Importance Score (based on Estimated WAR)
  4. George Paul: 12.7 Importance Score (based on Estimated WAR)
  5. Bridger Presley: 11.2 Importance Score (based on Estimated WAR)
  6. Renato Viriato: 5.8 Importance Score (based on Estimated WAR)
  7. Yan Nunez: 5.6 Importance Score (based on Estimated WAR)
  8. Jesse Hammond: 2.1 Importance Score (based on Estimated WAR)
Using that list I will probably vote for the following five guys: Chantres, Trinidad, Paul, Presley and McKain...but it turns out McKain isn't on the ballot this year. So vote #5 goes to Viriato.

I think a guy that needs to be looked at is Player Profile: Luther MacDougal - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports
11 time All-Star
7 time Fireman of the Year award (most in world history)

I like Chantres, Calles, Nunez as locks for me. I would also vote for MacDougal and Phil Searle (2B primary position)
2/22/2023 9:39 PM
To me, it's Chantres, Calles, Nunez as the "lock" recs, with Viriato, MacDougal, Trinidad as recommends, and Searle as a special discussion case (super high peak, lacks longevity). I don't think Paul is particularly worthy at all, he's just a good-hit no-D 1B without really impressive single-year stats (whereas Trinidad, at least, was an elite 1B with some really strong years).
