It's not just to start the season, either - the same would apply if you signed a free agent to a minor-league contract during the season. The only time a lack of options comes up is when the player is already on the ML roster and you want to send him down. If you can get him directly to the minor-league roster, you're fine.

How long does it take for a trade to go through? It says 24 hrs but it has been over 24 hrs and if I don't get him soon I won't be able to arbitrate him. What happens if I don't get a chance to arbitrate?

it's usually 24 hours + 1 cycle. it should happen by 7 tonight if it's just been 24 hours.

if you don't submit an offer (and the owner that traded him to you didn't), he'll get whatever he asked for.

You can set them in the Managers Office > Player Settings > Edit Player Settings.

How does ST work DH wise? Is it based on home park?
I don't want my pitchers taking away my young guys at bats if I'm an AL team playing an NL team!
