FCD Cup XIII - Fútbol Cotopaxi - Champion Topic

So you are saying there is still a chance?!?! Let's go draws and terrible losses.
11/15/2023 6:41 PM
Three games this evening resulted in three teams earning their blue highlighting as the number of teams to qualify for the playoffs now stands at 9.

Joe's Team Of a Thousand Corpses played a couple of games and the results determined both transfer spots in Group D. Hitting the road, DEAD killed what chance Space Olympics had of moving on in the tournament when they beat the French side 1-0. Veteran Trevond Simms scored the game's only goal in the 41st minute after he avoided several clearance attempts. Olympics, playing for its playoff life, couldn't get the equalizer and was eliminated. Later that day, DEAD travelled to England with the hopes of keeping their own Knockout Round hopes alive. But, Arsenal F.C. jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after Teague Guildford scored twice before the 20 minute mark and, despite a goal from Tormod Dalsgaard to cut the lead in half, couldn't find the back of the net again, ending the game as a 2-1 Arsenal win. With the result, DEAD was eliminated from the tournament and both Arsenal and Fianna AFC advance as the Group D qualifiers.

From Group E, Futbol Club Oviedo earned its spot in the next round with a solid 4-0 win over visiting Der Kaiserlich-Österreichische Hodensack. Although the game was statistically even, the scoreboard wasn't. Enrique Porcel scored twice and Oviedo put it away with three goals midway through the 2nd half. Remaining winless, The Crown Jewels exit the tournament unless all sorts of miracles occur in the last few games.

There are 6 games tomorrow and then the Group Stage begins to wind down.

We've played our league season incredibly similar to our uneven Jekyll/Hyde performance in this tournament, unfortunately. I don't know what gives, this team should be much better than they've been playing. As always thanks for running this gomiami and the recaps are always enjoyable! Good luck to everyone still alive.

You go 2-0-1 on the road and score 10 away goals, then get shutout in all three home games. That's hard to do, lol.

Five games are in the history books and another team has seen its way through to the next round. A couple of games out of Group E assures that Rushmore FC will join Futbol Club Oviedo in the playoffs. Oviedo had little difficulty dispatching Der Kaiserlich-Österreichische Hodensack 3-1 on the road. The player of note, again was Hodensack goalie Volney Stryker, who muffed all three scores. Had the goalie been sure-handed, Ernesto Tafel's blast in the 70th minute might have actually won the game. Instead, The Crown Jewels will be looking for a new goalkeeper next season. Rushmore played at home against Southeast Indiana Football Club in a game Indiana had to win in order to stay alive. After a scoreless 1st half, Sped Daubernon put Indiana on the board with a shot at point blank range. But, a three minute period where Indiana's defense relaxed just a bit cost the visitors a pair of goals midway through the 2nd half and dashed their hopes of getting out of the Group Stage. The 2-1 Rushmore win clinches their spot and they can win the group with a victory in their last game against Hodensack.

The defending Champions are on the verge of elimination after a 3-1 loss to the crutchanators of soccer. crutchanators jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals by Swiss forward Heinz Hagelin and Kingston was not able to close the gap. The loss places Kingston in a must-win situation for their last two games, make up a whopping 12 goal differential and pray Bad News beats crutchanators. On a positive note, they will get the chance now that Bad News has started to schedule their remaining Group A games.

Burnaby Hillbillies and kangaroo fc played to a 3-3 draw in Group C that makes the final transfer spot down to the last game. The Hillbillies held a 3-2 lead when Remington Kain was shown the showers after picking up his 2nd yellow of the contest in the 83rd minute. kangaroo wasted no time cashing in on the man advantage when Naum Desny scored a minute later after a scramble in front of the Hillbillies goal. The tie eliminated FC Cackalacky, who was needing kangaroo to emerge victorious, since the final group game will allow for either Burnaby or The Shield of the Cow to match Cackalacky's 7 points with a better differential. Burnaby needs a tie to advance and The Cow needs a win.

To wrap up the morning action, FC Trojans of SC kept their high scoring ways in a 5-3 win over Merchiston FC in Group H. That gives the Trojans 20 goals in the tournament, 2nd most to Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi's 28 out of Group A. Another red card impacted the final score as Merchiston's birthday boy Thomas-VanLuijk De Meyer, who just turned 55, was given a double yellow present from the referee with the game sitting at 3-2 in favor of the Trojans. The man down situation didn't help Merchiston, even thought they got a short-handed goal from MacPherson MacLeay to temporarily tie the contest. Tallies by Rashan Berwick and Dahal Corner late in the game sealed the deal.

A couple of additional games will be played this afternoon and will get added at 7pm.

A quick change to the standings. Futbol Club Oviedo, at 4-0-2 has 14 Group Stage points, clinching first place in Group E. I had it listed as 12 for some reason. That locks Rushmore FC into the 2nd transfer spot.

Now to this evening's contests. No more drama could have unfolded than what happened in Group C, where Burnaby Hillbillies and The Shield of the Cow played the final game to determine who would advance. The Cow, needing to win, jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Emerson Heçija knocked home a header early in the 2nd half. Burnaby then responded with a pair of goals of their own after Aluino Belenguer scored in the 70th minute, helped by The Cow goalie Luke Sengier mishandling the ball. In desperation mode for the last 20 minutes, things fell apart for The Cow after leading scorer Halbert Labazares got a straight red card to the dismay of the entire club. Down a man, they couldn't recover and the 2-2 tie eliminated The Shield of the Cow from the tournament, making a rare early exit. Group C actually ended up in a three-way tie for 2nd place but Burnaby Hillbillies advances based on goal differential.

Another high stakes matchup occurred in Group G, where butterfiles united jumped from 3rd to 1st after a dominating performance over Brighton AFC 4-0. The game was never really in doubt as butterfiles scored twice in the first 6 minutes and cruised to a 3-0 halftime lead. Brighton, which had already clinched, seemed disinterested and put up little resistance as they have to settle for 2nd place in the group. The result eliminates Aurea Cruce Aquilonis, which needed a Brighton victory.

Bordeaux Fighting Bovines made a statement when they hit the road and crushed FC Not Very Athletic 6-1, wiping out their negative goal differential and placing them in no worse than a tiebreaker situation for the final Group F playoff spot. Athletic did not look very athletic this evening, as they yielded a whopping four goals to The Cattle's Orlondo Rosario. Athletic is now in a must win situation with their final game against SwampDragons United, which is also in a must win situation. Athletic's biggest problem is a -7 differential, which will be hard to erase.

A couple of other games also went final. My Fußball-Club Köln 01/07 e. V. team ended it's hapless tournament with a 0-6 record as they put up a fight to the far superior Swamp City Dragons but fell 3-1. Three different Dragons scored and Pacorro Malave tallied for Köln. The win solidifies the Dragons as the #1 seed in the Knockout Rounds, handling Group B with a 5-0-1 record and 16 stage points. Also Merchiston FC made up for the cancelled game that cost them a draw and beat Fighting Ants in the return matchup 3-1 in front of a sellout of 60,000. Thomas-VanLuijk De Meyer atoned for his red card blunder in the game against FC Trojans of SC and knocked in two. Merchiston and Trojans are now tied at 6 points apiece, with the Trojans currently holding the 2nd tiebreaker of away goals. Merchiston does have a game in hand as the second spot in Group H will be between those two squads. Real TK was eliminated as they had needed an Ants victory to keep their slim hopes alive.

Six games tomorrow and more playoff spots on the line.

Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi out of Group A has also clinched a playoff spot although not 1st place in the group. With 12 points, they can not be caught by the teams with three losses, leaving the other playoff spot between the remaining three clubs.

Our first time not advancing out of the group stage. The Cows got milked. Good luck everyone, and thanks gomiami1972! Looking forward to the next one!

Four additional games have entered the realm of history and we are down to only 1 remaining transfer spot still up for grabs.

As is becoming customary in the Cup when the defending Champion gets eliminated - Down Goes Frazier! FC Kingston, in its bid to become the first team to win two Cups in a row, was unceremoniously bounced from Group A with a 7-2 thrashing from the crutchanators of soccer. Heinz Hagelin contributed a hat trick and Israeli teammate Mikhail Stappelfeld scored twice in a game that was 6-0 before Kingston got on the scoreboard. The result eliminated Bad News as well from the tournament, although their remaining games will impact seeding. Both crutchanators and Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi have 12 points with one game remaining against News to determine who will be the Group A winner and who will finish 2nd.

In Group F, FC Not Very Athletic, in a must win situation, did beat SwampDragons United by a score of 2-1 but it wasn't nearly enough for them to make up the goal differential. Athletic had needed to win the game by 7 goals. The end result is that Bordeaux Fighting Bovines has clinched 2nd place in the group and both Athletic and the Swampsters are eliminated. The final group game will imact seeding only.

Two other games were were for seeding purposes as well. Rushmore FC improved its seed with a 4-2 win over winless Der Kaiserlich-Österreichische Hodensack in the final Group E game. The Crown Jewels shot themselves in the foot when they went a man down early and Cannavaro Maccarone put the game away in the 2nd half with a nutmeg on the Hodensack fullback followed by a rocket that stranded Austrian goalie Volney Stryker. Rushmore is going to be either the #9 or #10 seed, depending on other results. Arsenal F.C. improved its seeding with a 4-0 road win over Joe's Team Of a Thousand Corpses to wrap up Group D play. Teague Guildford scored twice as Arsenal moved up a couple of seeds for Knockout Round placement and finishes the group stage with 13 points.

There are two games this evening.

Good luck going forward Bovines and Hibs. Back next season for revenge.... ;)

Thanks again for doing this gomiami, you're a (the?) driving force behind keeping FC Dynasty going, for me at least, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

I really appreciate it, man. There are some others who keep the flame lit. For example, World 85 has had an excellent in-world tournament going on for years.

Maybe the Cup will catch the eye of a WIS developer and they'll do something to the program as a side project? There's always a chance.

There remains two games that have yet to be scheduled and the deadline is this evening. This is how I am going to handle these games so that there are no surprises. The following applies only if the games remain unscheduled.

Out of Group F, there is an unscheduled game between VB Hibernian and SwampDragons United. A game is scheduled but it is at the wrong home field. I have given Hibs the option to take the forfeit draw or play the game at the wrong stadium. As of yet, I have not heard back. If I do not hear back, I will award Hibs a single point (the forfeit.)

Out of Group A, there is an unscheduled game between Bad News and Club de Fútbol Deportivo Cotopaxi. Cotopaxi has atempted to schedule a couple of times and their last attempt was a duplicate with crutchanators in slot 2 with the crutchanators game being accepted. Bad News did start scheduling their away games a couple of days ago and has been in regular contact. I sitemailed Cotopaxi and have yet to hear back. It's a tough call on what to do because both coaches have made an effort but timing just hasn't worked out. I will declare the game a draw and award both teams a single point since neither coach has really dropped the ball on this one.

Well that was a disappointing title defense. Sad I couldnt return the same squad as last cup but age and salary caught up to us on the rollover. Anway Group A might have been the Group of Death, so many good teams. Best of Luck to Crutchanators and Cotopaxi moving forward as well as the remaining teams. Thanks GoMiami for all the hard work you put into this. Already looking forward to the next Cup, hopefully we can regroup next offseason and come back strong.
11/17/2023 1:01 PM
This'll be interesting. Rollover hit yesterday. 12 players remain on what once was a robust side of 18. The issue at hand is, how many of the 12 are goalkeepers?
11/17/2023 5:53 PM
Congrats to butterfiles and Brighton for grabbing the group G spots in the sweet sixteen. I thought I had a pretty good club in that group, but those teams were better.

colinhtucker, I'm impressed with how well your twelve guys have handled their business so far post-rollover!
