Very funny. I hadn't actually noticed any innuendo til now.
It's actually an old French word for theatre employees who try to persuade passers-by to see the show, then sell stuff in the intervals.
More pertinently, and the reason that I chose it, is that it was the name of the winner of the Epsom Derby in 1913. Aboyeur was the last one to win at 100-1, and only did so on the disqualification of the well backed favourite.
Furthermore, it was the year that earlier in the race a suffragette called Emily Davison threw herself at King George V's horse, causing it to fall, and killing her. It was to protest for the right to vote for women. It was probably counter-productive, given that most men probably thought 'typical woman, doing a silly thing like that. We can't possibly trust them with the vote.'
