That was our biggest fear. Night after night, so many deserving teams play each other. It was inevitable that some of the RPIs would drop into PIT territory.

Still looking at 5 NT teams, 4 PIT Teams, and 2 others fighting to make the PIT, although it is steep climb for Manchester.
To show the strength of the conference, Manchester lost 3 in a row and my RPI improved by 4 spots.

Hanover has identical records both in and out of conference to Westminster..a slightly better record vs. top 25 (and 6-2!!)..won 10 straight..#2 RPI and 3rd SOS..I mean how can you possibly justify having me 9th and Hanover not ranked (albeit 26th in voting)?? Obviously overall rating is too much of a factor..

This has been a tough year for Franklin as I have 10 underclassmen. The next two years will see Franklin return to respectability. Two really good recruiting classes in a row will begin to show their worth next season. Beware the Grizzlies.

IUChris, no reason to explain. You've proven you know this game. There is no doubt in anyones mind that two seasons from now you will be a force to be recond with!
That's the beauty of the Heartland. Every season one team is rebuilding, two more are at the pinnicale of their rebuilding. With the exception of Hanover and Westminster, who for whatever reason are never rebuilding and are always at the pinnicale.

Transylvania and Thomas More improved their at-large chances by upsetting Defiance and Hanover, respectively.
Phil. Bibical has completed their season and is squarely on the bubble at RPI 51.
Bluffton ends the season with 2 big games..Hanover and Defiance
Anderson could make a big move if they win on the road at Westminster tonight.

Well I know I've had some down seasons at Westy..and you would definitely need to include Transy in that statement, seeing as they've NEVER missed the postseason..and I think only 2 of those were in the PIT.

With 6 Srs leaving after this season (including all 5 starters), we shouldn't be near as good next season..although I'm thinking I'll look to the Juco ranks a little bit this year to help balance out my classes more.

"hey! how has the jokester avoided the carnage? and didja noptice...they are #2 rpi, and have won 10 games in a row in by far the toughest conference.... AND THEY ARE NOT RANKED????!!!!!111?!1?1!? " oldave
the rankings are kinda messed for The Supreme conf. westminster should be top 3, hanover followed closely behind at 4 or 5, and mt st joe should crack the top 25. I know my santa cruz team is NOT the #3 team in the nation maybe top 10 but thats pushin it

hey allblack will they still give you an invite to the natl tourny if u finish with a .500 or so record? do they base the selections that closely to the RPI or do you think u might snubbed to PIT land? this is only my 4th season in HD so I havent had a chance to make an accurate judgement of what it take to make the tournys, all I know is schedule hard (top 30) and win 20+ games and u got a shot.

I'm not sure, matt. Right now my RPI is 22. I think that would get me in with a .500 record. But if my RPI slips to into the 40's, I think I'll be overlooked.
I've seen losing teams get PIT invitations, but not to the Dance
1/13/2007 10:31 PM
al, you ought to try to lose tonite and then you would likely finish with a losing record unless you win the CT (and you should try not to wint he CT, either)
that way we can see if a losing record can get into the dance!

This should be quite a tournament. There are a number of unanswered questions.
1) Will Transylvania get an at-large bid with their .500 record?
2) Defiance, Bluffton, and Phil. Biblical...with RPI's in the 50's, considering the toughness of the conference, be enough to get them in the tournament?
3) Will Heartland be the 1st conference to place 9 teams in post-season play?
Bracket:
Hanover meets the winner of Transylvania-Manchester
Mt. St. Joseph plays the winner of Bluffton-Waynesburg
Westminster faces the winner of Anderson-Thomas More
Defiance meets the winner of Philadelphia Biblical-Franklin

A day of upsets. Only one higher seed won. It seems likely that Heartland will place 10 (!) teams in post-season play
Manchester defeated Transylvania; Franklin knocked off Phil. Biblical; and Waynesburg beat Bluffton. Anderson, however, escaped with a win over Thomas More.
Waynesburg's win, coupled with Bluffton's loss, should secure PIT bids for both squads. Philadelphia Biblical and Thomas More should join them. Anderson, too, unless they win the CT.
Transylvania is now 13-14, but is listed as a 'lock' for the tournament. Hanover, Mt. St. Joseph, and Westminster are locks as well. Defiance may go either way.
TONIGHT:
Defiance's at-large bid may hinge on defeating Franklin. It would've helped more, though, if they were playing Phil. Biblical.
Westminster plays Anderson.
Mt. St. Joseph gets Waynesburg
Hanover meets hated Hoosier State rival Manchester.
