Rick DiPietro (G) NYI
DiPietro (knee) has started doing some light skating, the Islanders Blog by Newsday reports.DP skated without pads on Monday (40 minutes) and Tuesday (30 minutes). There hasn't been any announced change to this point concerning his timetable for returning to action (four-to-six weeks), so assume he could be sidelined for at least another two weeks.

Hey, if they play the Senators enough, they could make the playoffs, even without DiPietro.

Oopsie!

Additional surgery on DiPietro's knee has not yet been ruled out, the New York Newsday reports."At this time, we're not anticipating any further surgery," a team orthopedist was quoted. He also added that the plan is to give DiPietro six-to-eight weeks of rest and rehab to see how the knee responds and then make the determination on the next step in treatment. When asked if DiPietro's injuries are career-threatening, the orthopedist said: "At this time, I would say no." It looks like DP, who has 12 years remaining on his contract, may have a long road to recovery ahead of him.

DiPietro (knee) will be shut down for the rest of the season, according to TSN.ca.DP has only played five games this season after having three operations in the past year, including hip surgery in March and arthroscopic knee surgery in October to repair a torn meniscus. The Islanders web site reports this is a precautionary move due to the constant swelling in the knee. Dump him in year-over-year leagues but stash him away in keeper formats. He is expected to resume skating in the summer.

I hope they don't play him in the NHL next year - better give him another season where he's got a chance of winning a few games

My guess are the Isles will be contenders again soon... I mean someday... I mean in their fan's dreams someday... (did you notice I said fan? no "s"...)
