What do you think about
Player Profile: Nigel Leius - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports?
I'm an (adopted) Astros fan (though I did adopt them back when I moved to Houston & they were horrible, so I feel I've earned my stripes!) so I think offensively he's similar to former Astro Chris Carter. 2014 Carter hit enough homers to make up for low AVG/OBP, IMO, but obviously 2015 Carter didn't.
2014: .227/.308/.491 w/ 37 bombs & 88 RBIs
2015: .199/.307/.427 w/ 24 bombs & 64 RBIs
HBD Leius hit somewhat similar to 2014 Carter in my season that just ended:
.229/.284/.499 w/ 37 homers & 99 RBIs
.270 ISO, 4.28 RC/27
worse AVG/OBP than Carter, but better SLG (all of which was Coors-boosted), with a significant difference on defense. Carter was/is a crappy defensive 1B, Leuis is a very good SS.
I primarily used Leuis as my starting SS vs lefties (my other SS hits righties well, but only has an 11 vsL rating) and as a super-utility guy who started almost every game against righties at CF (13 games)/2B (25 games)/3B (61 games... along with the 56 games at SS).
He totaled 24 "+" plays (10 at SS, 9 at 3B, 3 at 2B, and 2 in CF) with 1 "-" play and a .992 F% at SS, a .987 F% at 3B, and 1.000 in less playing time at both 2B & CF.
He had pretty extreme splits, both home/away and vL/vR:
home: .237/.280/.546 (again, Coors Field)
away: .222/.288/.452
vL: .237/.272/.599
vR: .224/.281/.428
Do you think his SLG/home runs and his defense make up for his low AVG/OBP?
Going into next season, I'm planning to still start him at SS vs lefties. This obviously depends on what's out there to an extent, but do you think I should try to find starters at 3B/2B/CF and move Leuis to a defensive replacement role vs righties, or keep trying to find a spot for him as an every day starter?
