Is it too much to expect this guy to be a serviceable SUB with say a 4.25 ERA and 1.3 WHIP? 
I don't expect greatness from him and thought maybe this season would be a little better.  Instead he's still getting crushed. 

His pitch count is too high, and... wait, this is the Jeopardy! thread.  Mike, would you set his pitch count to 15 and expect something in the 4.70 - 5.20 range in Salem (AL)?

4.25/1.30 seems a little beyond expectation as his pitches aren't all that.  Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Gene Woodson is probably the closest I have and he's been destroyed in Albuquerque.    That's much better hitter's park but destroyed is destroyed.    If you can get a 5 ERA from him, that's going to be about his best.

Yes, I'd lower his PC, 15/20, and expectations.

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Alex Monroe is my #2 pitcher and just went down with a 33 day injury at the start of the season.  I have 2 SP prospects ready to call up, so I think I can fill the void while he's injured and maintain a playoff pace.  Would you put him on the 60-day DL and hope for an extra injury bump?  I have 20 training and 16 medical.

If you think you can keep your team in contention for the next 55+games(11 starts for a SP), absolutely.   That's a fantastic injury for a pitcher.   Every key pitcher rating took a hit so all of them should get a double bump. 

Yeah, I think my team can manage without him for a while, it's worth it to gain the extra ratings across the board.  My next question is: with a DL stint, is it retroactive to the date of injury, even if I don't add him to the DL for 3 more days?

Yeah, it's retroactive. 

My team in Hot Stove is 31-34 at home, 49-24 on the road, and currently sitting in line for the 2 seed in the AL.  Do you think if I asked admin nicely, they would add an option for me to defer home field advantage in the playoffs?

What is the largest division lead that you have seen blown?  Anything like the 64 Phillies?

I've never seen anyone overcome 8-9 games to start the 2nd half.    This game just isn't built for complete collapses.

Mostly you're missing GB/FB.    He gives up a lot of homers which is why his ERA doesn't match his WHIP.    He rates out to be about the same as Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Earl Willis.    It's insane to have Holmes throw 47 pitches.   Lower his PC to 20/25.    He'll be better but he's still not going to be lights out.    Too many homers.   Look at his individual outings because you're never going to like his year end totals when compared to his ratings(if you overlook GB).

i think the 46 pitches was a weird abberation, 7 of his 9 outing are under 25pitches, and 6 of 9 are under 17pitches.  But ironically that one outing with 46 pitches, was his best of the year, with him throwing 4.1IP of shutout 1-hit relief.  Wierd huh?
