Grindi, tarred with what brush exactly? Explain to me the flaws in this thinking that I have without relying only on opinion and not fact. Yes, I am also speaking my opinion but it is backed up with facts, just look at our defense budget and the profit margins for defense contractors. Read Eisehower's farewell address, its all there.(If you wish me to cite specifics examples I will) Saying that without fighting the Vietnam War and Korean war and the Iraq war I wouldn't be able to type this statement right now is ludicrous. If you would present me with any ounce of credibilty to that statement, and explain a direct correlation between any of those wars and my freedoms and liberties as an American I would gladly swallow my words and admit just how wrong I am. However, without any evidence to the contrary I will continue to stand by my statement that the continues state of War that our country has been in for the last 60 years has nothing to do with freedom or democracy and all to do with greed and power.

By the way, I wold never ask anyone to support any war the U.S. has or is in.  It is your right as an American to support it or not.  But you should always support the American Soldier and the flag they fight under.
Amen, kap.  Having served 8 years in the US Navy, I still take pride in the fact that I served my country to the absolute best that I could.

Aren't you glad someone made it possible for you to disagree openly?  Believe me when I tell you this. If or when the day ever comes for you that the lead is flying all around and you're trying to get as small as possible, the last thing on your mind is the passion of your beliefs.

Freedom has a taste, the protected will never know.

Like I said brother, save your typing.  He knows everything.  History always repeats itself because some people refuse to open their eyes.  I can see this guy in a Toga just prior to Romes' fall preaching his feel good.  Little known fact by most Liberals....Did you know that a Roman soldier when he retired was given a tract of land and a pension?  Did you also know that he was included in the law that said citizens could not posess weapons?  Not even so much as a dagger.  So when Rome fell it wasn't  the lack of soldiers that weren''t there and couldn't fight it was just that the do gooders of the day wouldn't allow them any weapons to fight with.  They were going to reason with their enemies.  Well how did that work out for them?  I wonder how many of them wished they had kept their big mouths shut when the wolves came knocking on the door?  Keep yapping bc, sorry but you're a fool.  That's not a personal attack.  I don't think you're a jerk or any vile named thing.  I don't think you're dumb.  You're just a fool.  Your ideals are whacked.  I feel sorry for you.  I'm ashamed and proud that our country protects your kind.  Be glad you are here instead of say Korea.  Our country allows people to talk against it.

Amen to that Quietman.  I knew a few athiests that found God in a foxhole.  His type of person just saddens me.

Greed?  Are you nuts?  How much money did we make in any of the wars?  We lost Billions.  Power?  What do we have to prove in power?  Just who is more powerful as the U. S.?  Maybe you should try reading some books not written by our liberal media and by people that were actually there. Maybe by people who lived the stuff instead of idealists. Look at the faces of people we've liberated from Paris to Baghdad.  Even a lib like yourself should get warm and fuzzy over that stuff.  I'd be ashamed if you were my kid.  I know you're glad you're not.  I'm done.

Hes right to a degree and I agree WAR for the most part isn't the answer. Just a prelude to more problems. And the REAL reason our countrymen are in harms way is not the nobleist nor conducted in the best manner. One of our most redeeming qualities as a society is defending those who can't defend themselves. For those people who believe hurting and killing innocient women and children while shopping is answering some call of religion are sick, deeply sick. A no longer socialibly accepted means would do a better job and probably have ended it already but then again it isnt politically correct, just effective. So we continue on in another hopeless endever of attacking the tail instead of cutting off the head.

Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose.

Nothing, and I do mean nothing, if it aint free.

Think about it.

Quietman, I do appreciate that sacrifice that was made for me but those soldiers died long ago and those freedoms exist and would exist regardless of the last 60 years of military conflict the United States has engaged in. I can understand that once you are over there and the s*** hits the fan the last thing I would be thinking about is why Im there. However, before I ever enlisted I would be questioning the motives and that is what would lead me to never go over there to die needlessly. That is why recruitment is targeted at those who do not know any better and that is what I am trying to say. People need to stop supporting this broken system and refrain from enlisting because it is under false pretense. You are led to believe that you are fighting for my freedom but in actuality you are fighting for someone else personal gain and greed.

Zedicus, you mention Rome which I find very interesting. America is the modern day Rome. It wasn't the "do gooders" that brought down the Roman empire, it was the corruption and greed of its rulers. Constantly trying to conquer and control for wealth and they stretched themselvs to thin and the system imploded. Its rulers were more concerned about there personal wealth and power just as our are today.  The Roman empire is a perfect example of how it doesnt matter how strong your military might is if the core of society is rotted. Also, you talk of how they gave there soldiers a pension and tract of land, well that is great. But isnt that also a form of that same socialism that you guys preach so much against? When the government starts providing land to its citizens that my friend is socialism, which is the very thing which keps us Americans up at night hiding under the covers. I find it very ammusing that you would bring that up. How are you both ashamed and proud that our country "protects my kind"? If anything this country shuns my kind and it is only the Constitution which protects me, a Constitution that hasnt been threatened by any foriegn powers in a very long time. The only thing I see which threatens our Constitution is the post Reagan neo-conservative.

Once again, when someone can explain to me how exactly the military industrial complex has protected my freedoms the last 60 years I will gladly admit being wrong and stop with these posts. Until then, whenever you talk of how my freedoms have been protected in such an abstract way I will continue to point out the falsehoods in your government fed propoganda. I am no fool, it are those who refuse to acknowledge the cold hard facts who are the fools

Janice, where you been?? How's Jimmy and Elvis??

BC you're right. Absolutely right. Except for two things. 1st I'm a product of the sixties and when we felt so strongly about a issue we were on the White House Steps telling those who could do something about it. And secondly, probably most importantly, I was fighting for MY freedom and rights, not yours. If you want some go get them yourself. Thats another point FREEDOM cannot be given, It has to be earned.

Grindi, really who made money? Really? Where do you think all those billions we taxpayers went? It didnt just disapear, it landed in the pockets of corporations like Haliburton and Raytheon and countless other defense contractors. Power? Those same CEOs, Senators and Lobbyists who work with and for those corporations, that is who stands to gain the power. I read plenty of books, and maybe you should read some to. What do you mean by someone who was there? Read a book written by a soldier? what does that do to enlighten me to the root cause of the conflict? Nothing. Also, I see no one liberated in Bahgdad. I see people who have expierianced an exponential increase in violence since our so called "liberation". I see countless refugees forced out of their homes due to sectarian violence which is a direct result of our occupation. We havnt been liberators since we over took Berlin and Hitler died.

Quietman, Thank you. But you also must see that those murders of innocent women and children across the globe has increased since we have entered the middle east. Those wars being fought do nothing to stem the tide of violence and in fact does the opposite. Think of it logically, if you are a 15 year old boy in Iraq right now and you witnessed your mother and sister killed by an American bomb that struck your home would you not grow up to hate Americans and the west and then want to exact your revenge? We are not fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves, Im sorry but believing that just continues to feed the system and encourage unneeded military action around the world. Those people are sick, but killing innocent women and children in the name of corporate greed and calling it freedom is just as sick

Quietman, your right. My generation are mostly lazy about these things and dont answer the call to action. I wish we were more like the 60's generation and willing to march on the capitol building to fight for our freedoms and beliefs. If by saying that you fought in the military for your freedom than I am sorry, but you are misinformed. Maybe if you were enlightened to the facts of what is really going on you would have made the choice to abstain from supporting America's lobal campaign of terrorisim and avoided the horrors of fighting in an unneeded conflict

Talk about disrespect. SORRY kapkidd I've been ranting

My brothers' point about Rome you totally missed.  Yes it was the elected government a lott at fault, especially when the legion was pulled from Britain, but it was the "do gooders" who were elected to their senate that caused the problem.  That being said the final fall. even though government was failing, came when the starving tribes crossed the frozen rivers and sacked Rome.  I'm done ranting.  Sorry kap.  I should know better than to lock horns with a youngster over anything of this nature.  They'll never understand until they are on the front line.  Give it up bc I think your ideals are crap.  I don't want any part of them.  There's a place called Great Courses that actually have courses on all kinds of different things.  Maybe if you could actually learn something real if you get some of their stuff.  You sure you're not a communist?  That last post of yours sure did reak of it.  Maybe your just anti American.  Are you with the Taliban and trying to subvert us?  Just rambling thoughts but you are definately not my type to be around.
