I'm not so sure Marshall was the best human coached team in the conference either...seems we split with them and had a lot less talent...

A lot less talent? You were 650 w. out the two walk-ons, just a couple points below us. But hey, if you wanna hang your hat on one lucky game, be my guest. Somehow I don't think you'd trade seasons with us. As a Cuse fan, I can understand that you'd wanna rely on moral victories ...

Wow..Nice to know we can score we the rest of the conference! lol...jk

Season #1 C-USA Makeover

Prestige movement:
                Beginning   1st yr    2nd

Tulane         C+  stays   C+      C          8 teams went down in Prestige somehow.
C. Florida    C+  down   C        C-
Memphis     C    down   C        C-         Marshall went up 2 grades
E. Carolina  C    down   C-       D+
Rice              C    down   C-       D+        S. Miss and Houston managed to stay the same
Marshall       D+    up      C-       C+
S. Miss.        D+   stays   D+      D+
UAB              D+   stays   D+       D
Houston       D     stays   D         D
UTEP            D     stays   D         D-
Tulsa            D     stays   D         D-
SMU              D-      up     D+       D

Slightly misleading numbers as we had 2 programs gain ... and 4 drop one notch.
But It looks like the overall team averages for C-USA came up about 20 pts.
Hopefully we will see a reversal of this trend next season, and then some real progress the season after.

some numbers that may not mean anything to anyone else but me, but just a barometer / point of reference of Rupp DI Conferences right now.

                           W  -   L                    Total   RPI
#1 SEC -  full  215 - 146         480+274 =   754     (7 ranked teams)
 2  B-12 -   4    195 - 153         502+540 = 1042
 3  P-10 -   3    207 - 151         645+399 = 1044
 4  B-10 -   3    194 - 153         646+459 = 1105
 5  B-East  2    190 - 157         608+679 = 1287
 6 ACC  -    4    186 - 165         731+587 = 1318

 7th   A-10  6 openings   186-161  683+795 = 1478

16th  C-USA  (3 openings, 0 openings now)   160 - 174      1217+1111 = 2328 total (obviously we have a ways to climb), however, The SEC is the only full conference besides us in Rupp. Since we landed in Rupp, barring some unforseen disaster, I would predict that in 3-4 seasons we will compete with the Big-6, and if we can keep the conference together and filled, I predict in a few more we become their worst nightmare

In our second seasons, we finished 8th behind only the BCS conference and the A-10 -- with significantly worse prestige than those ahead of us.

Once that prestige goes up a little ... watch out, BCS.

4/23/2011 12:33 PM
I can guarantee that if things stay the way they are now, CUSA will pass the A10 (and probably some of the weaker Big 6 conferences)very soon  for the simple reason that every team will be human coached. The A10 is already better than the ACC this year, and thats with only 6 human coaches, and 3 of them still building their programs (less than 4 years at their current school). D1 Rupp is a pretty empty world for humans, and the CUSA is a good conference for a group to pick. Most decent human coaches can take a midmajor and have some success with it,  and all of you guys are better than decent. Having the postseason cash that comes with competence and/or a good baseline prestige is just a perk. As far as I'm concerned, good luck guys, I wish you the best. However, I'd rather play with a conference full of humans than one half full of sims any day.

The East grew a little stronger this season.
Their total RPI was 846 (ave 141) as opposed to 1065 (ave 177) last season.

The West was 1487 (ave 248), as compared to 1471 (ave 245) last season.
Tulane was pretty strong (50), and had to be rebuilt (5 seniors), and Tulsa and SMU added 6 and 5 frosh.
The drop in Tulane and SMU probably offset most of the gains in the rest. Billy's team was bad before he got there... and was actually almost as good with 6 freshman
