Raines had a career .385 OBP with 808 stolen bases.
Mattingly had a career .358 OBP with 14 stolen bases.

Raines was massively more valuable than Mattingly.
You, sir, are massively retarded.
Raines 69 WAR.
Mattingly 42 WAR.

Unless this is one of your magic "less is more" situations.

Somebody figured out how to catch a Raines(although I bet the dog hates it):

What?   You didn't know that OBP and SB are the two single most important stats?   Well, not counting JAWS.
Feel free to make the case that Mattingly was better. It's going to ride on about 45 points of slugging which isn't nearly as important as 30 points of OBP.

Homers are instant offense.  A walk and a SB leaves you waiting on somebody else to do something.   How many MVPs did Raines, the human dog turd, win?   He's a Vince Coleman wannabe.

Mattingly, at his peak, best player in baseball.

Raines, at his peak, standing on 2nd hoping somebody gets a hit.

I'm not saying that Mattingly was better.  I'm saying it's massively retarded to say that "Raines was massively more valuable than Mattingly".  I'd say, overall careers, it's a push.

Are you referring to 86? Raines was right there with him, along with Boggs, Schmidt, and Barfield.

In 85, when he won the MVP, it wasn't even close. Henderson was on another planet. Raines, Brett, Boggs, and Guerrero were also better than Mattingly that year.

Tec: Raines' entire career was 27 wins more valuable than Mattingly's. That's massive in my book.

You know what else is massive?  Your fundamental lack of understanding of the game of baseball.

I will give you credit for this: you do provide a great deal of comic relief in these forums.

I feel like if I was wrong, you'd gladly point out where and why. But you don't. Instead you just say, "whaaa you don't know anything, whaaaaaaaaa."

Fine.  1985.

Mattingly had 211 hits, 48 doubles, 35 home runs, scored 107 runs and drove in 145.  370 total bases.  Posted a .939 OPS and won the AL MVP.

Raines had 184 hits, 30 doubles, 13 home runs, scored 115, drove in 41.  273 total bases.  Posted an .880 OPS and finished 12th in the NL MVP race.

Seriously, how can you possibly say that Raines was better and "it wasn't even close" unless you're a complete moron?

Maybe.  Mattingly's peak was what, 4 years, though?  And after that he had 2 more decent seasons.  The rest of his career he's a league-average 1st basemen, at best.  Raines was well above average for 15 years, and the next few he was still very good but didn't play full time.  I'd have to say that Raines was quite obviously more valuable over the course of his career, and it really isn't particularly close.

As far as HOF consideration, Raines is one of the top 2 base thieves of all time.  His career success rate was 84.7%  Even Rickey was only successful 80.8% of the time.

And FWIW, Coleman stole at 80.9%.

Can you read? I was referring to Henderson. Henderson was by far the best player in the league in 85.

Raines, over his entire career, was significantly more valuable than Mattingly. In 85, Raines was probably better. Mattingly was better in 86.

Rickey had a great year in '85.  Finished third in AL MVP voting.  Only two spots behind his teammate and the AL's best player that year, Don Mattingly.

To say that Rickey was better and "it wasn't even close" is something that only a complete moron would say.

Do you follow and understand the game of baseball?

I think its funny how MikeTard has waffled on Ichiro being a HoFer. Just a few years ago (when Ichiro was still a Mariner) he wasn't Hall of Fame material, but now that he's a Yanker he is?

So I went back and looked at that thread and fatboy didn't say Ichiro wasn't a HoFer - just not a 1st ballot lock (which he is). My bad.
