I just abused it and it's not fair.

There is absolutely no reason I should be able to figure out if anyone is bidding on FA.  And it's very easy.    Click a team for current payroll.  Move to trade screen and see what payroll shows for the same team.  The difference is outstanding FA bids.

The only thing stopping it from being completely foolproof is that bonuses do not show.   Otherwise, I'd have reduced my FA bid by a lot more than I did.

Shhhh!!!!

Stop me before I kill again!

JV explained this to me some time ago.... what I still don't understand is how you know whether it's one bid or multiple bids, and who the player/players are. You can make an educated guess, but are you certain enough to rely on it? I seem to recall a certain owner (*ahem*) telling me he lost a FA he thought he had using this system.

100%?  No.   But enough that I lowered my bid by 5m because I thought I had 10m in room to do it(which was confirmed).

Where this comes into play the most is late in free agency, when the only guys left are the big contract players or the ones with dropping demands who will sign right away. It makes it too easy to know who is bidding on the big money guys and how much they are bidding.

Is that how you outbid me on the final cycle by a couple of $M in Cooperstown, you swine!!!
10/30/2011 5:20 PM
No but that's how I worked it in Hamilton.

I'll let you off then...

We will be reviewing and addressing.

Thanks for being forthcoming.

There's just no reason I, or anyone, should know how much another owner has out in FA bids.
11/1/2011 12:56 PM
True - although in real life I assume agents would reveal to other bidders what the best current bid is.
11/1/2011 1:51 PM
But they could also be lying.   When I see your payroll increases by 16m/15m/15m/15/16m over the next 5 seasons, I know you're bidding big on someone.

this still needs a fixin'
11/23/2011 7:35 AM
tell em, dino!
11/23/2011 8:25 AM
i mean when you have like $150M invested into FA's and there's only one max caliber player out there, it's not too hard for everyone to figure out you're involved
