My favorite thing from the old sim days was the deadballers with 0 CS since the data didn't exist. You could steal 100s of bases with those guys and they never got caught. When they added in the CS based on whatever formula they did, I bet the usage of hitters from 1885-1919 dropped by about 90%.
I missed that iteration of the game, and while I don't think we should go back to that the CS% they're using now seems to be too high; it's not worth paying for high-SB deadballers because they get caught so much you can't set them to steal.  The high CS rate is especially perplexing, since there are so few decent deadball-era catcher's arms.  Odd, isn't it: there are only five A+ arms from 1885-1919 (minimum 500 PA/162), yet baserunners have such abysmal SB/SBA.
Couldn't agree more. It's OK if SB% is factored into the hitters pircing like catchers arm is, but if you're paying for raw SB, you are hosed. That said, its ashamed to draft an all time steals leader like Honus Wagner and set him to 0 or 1 to steal. It was absurd when they stole at a 98% clip, but it's too far the other way in my mind.

I see a theme league coming on...back in the WIS heyday, this would be filled by Monday...now it won't get past 10 owners. Sad really.

Doc - The wife and I plan one trip a year to see the Sharks on the road, and we haven't been to Saint Louis yet (told you I have the best wife ever).  Wanna catch a game next season?  I gotta warn you, I'll be wearing my Vlasic jersey!
YESSIR, just give a bit of advance notice...I'm in.
Along these lines, if anyone should happen to head to the great city of San Antonio, I'll buy you a beer at the San Antonio Missions game of your choice, especially if it's $1 beer Thursday. Just let me know.

Damn!  I was in San Antonio just a couple months ago!

Nothing keeping you from coming back! Since you're a foodie...where did you eat while here if I may ask?

Plus, if you don't make the Missions game, since I know you dig hockey we can do an Rampage tilt. Yes, you can even wear a darn Sharks jersey, just make sure it's not a Brian Marchment sweater. I'll be donning my Dallas Stars gear of course, so you'll have to deal with that.

I had one of the best steaks of my life at Bohannon's - the Domestic Kobe ribeye.  Absolutely mind-blowing.

Texas and beef - excellent choice. I still say you've got to have a great chicken fried steak and some margaritas...that's good stuff.

I know The Mayor had some pretty serious health problems, Juicester.  He got back into it maybe a year or so ago with a few teams, but I haven't seen him on here since.  He and I used to chat every few days a few years ago.  The Taint used to have pretty solid contact with him.  The Mayor...what a character!

Yep, had the pleasure of meeting up with "The Mayor" once while he was visiting relatives in St. Louis.  We had a couple of cold ones at the Ameristar Casino out in St. Charles.  Good guy.

Forgot about Ooooohdoggie.  He could find the most amazing photos of all of the old-time ball players and the stadiums.  I'd click on his threads just to enjoy the pictures...

I forgot about the pictures, but you're right... I was in two different progressives with him and with every pick in the draft he'd find a good 5-6 pictures of the player just taken and post them. It's how I learned JR Richard was black and Brooks Robinson wasn't. Always enjoyed his pictures posts.

Unfortunately I've never met another WISer in RL. I know a couple live in my general area (Phoenix), and I know a few lived in St. Louis area where I was a few years ago. I almost made it to a Wrigleyfest when I was in the St. Louis area, but RL got in the way. I am friends on FB with a handful of WISers.... but, I'd be more than happy to grab a beer and some wings or something with one of you guys (and I'm sure my brother would as well).

I've been fortunate to meet up with five other WIS'ers over the years and have enjoyed the company of each.  TUCKER T'S, CARDINALDAVE, DEWELCH71, PINERIDERS and TUMH2O_BOPS.  Also had the pleasure of visiting the WhatIfSports Headquarters in Cincinnati a few years back and got to meet Mr. Zentmeyer (Tom) and "The Turk" (Tarek) as well.  Brought my wife and I in, introduced us to the others working there, pointed out all of the different stations and who was in charge of running them.  After the tour, Tarek gave my wife and I both a T-Shirt and wished us well.  Haven't been back since but I can almost assume with FOX running things that the customer service may not be as wonderful as it was the last time...lol.
