Re: Mitt's trip to London...and his gaffe-a-thon. With Israel and Poland still to go.

I know you guys did not have a lot to choose from this time around in the primaries. Maybe 2016 will be better. That is all.

Here are the local headlines the Republican presidential candidate woke up to: “Mitt Romney casts doubt on London 2012 preparations” (The Times of London) and “Mitt Romney questions whether Britain is ready for Games” (The Daily Telegraph).

Nice things to say when you are a guest. Of course PM Cameron had a great comeback:

"This is a time of some economic difficulty for the UK but look at what we are capable of achieving as nation even at a difficult economic time," Cameron said, according to The Telegraph of London. "We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course it's easier if you hold an Olympic Games in the middle of nowhere."

Did he say the Brits "didn't build that"?
“I have learned from my Olympic experience that if you have people who really understand how Washington works and have personal associations there you can get money to help build economic development opportunities,” Romney says.

“We actually received over $410 million from the federal government for the Olympic games. That is a huge increase over anything ever done before and we did that by going after every agency of government,” he says.

“She said, ‘Why don’t I get the Department of Education to buy tickets to the Paralympics so that high school and grade school kids can go to the Paralympics?’ She literally got, I believe the number  was over $1 million from the Department of Education, funding to buy tickets for kids,” Romney said.  “This way we got kids there and we also got additional revenues that we wouldn’t have had.  That kind of creativity I want to bring to everything we do.”

Yep...even the things he touts as evidence of his personal success, he did not accomplish without government help.
The conservative image of the rugged individualist who accomplishes everything wholly on their own and without help is a myth.

Since no one in the UK votes in the US presidential election (as far as we know, although I'd check the absentee votes in Illinois!), I don't think this alleged "gaffe" is going to hurt Mitt.

No, but after his comments on how Obama does not get the "Anglo-Saxon" heritage thing, it suggests he doesn't get it so much himself.

From his book:  No Apologies  "England is just a small island. Its roads and houses are small. With few exceptions, it doesn't make things that people in the rest of the world want to buy."

I suggest he read How to Win Friends and Influence People.

And the olympic comment was a great example of how a non-politician acts.

He didnt insult England, he made an honest analysis of the situation. Of course he should have lied and said "Everything looks great". Kind of like saying "I think your wedding dress looks great".

Bad liars make gaffes.

Piers Morgan said Romney was correct.  Imagine that.

So running the Olympics is irrelevant, because the govt pitched in?  Really?  Interesting.

Not "his comments".  An alleged comment from a "Romney aide" who was not identified in the story.  Convenient.

And based on Obama's dissing the Brits left and right, it's an accurate statement.  But he sure does know how to bow to other world leaders!
