Which reminds me...I want to do an earlier version of Rule V, perhaps 1930-1968, a 16 team league...any thoughts?

Would be fun to have the Browns/Orioles, or the Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta franchise...Wow, the cartoon Birds playing in Sportsman's Park would be a neat wrinkle...Spahn and Sain in Rule V? Musial, Ott, Kiner, Hubbell, Teddy Ballgame, as well as Ruth/Gehrig...Lots of good teams, especially those Phil A's....Mack had some loaded rosters...If I had the Cards, I could have Musial, Slaughter and Medwick, or maybe Brock in the same outfield. Hmm, DH or not? Wow, who would want Reggie, Killebrew or Richie Allen as a DH? And where to set the cap? At $120M you're gonna have a ton of offense, maybe $100 or $110 would be a better cap...

I seem to remember playing at least one season like that, but interested lacked.  Not to say it couldn't work.

I think 100 or 110 would be a better cap for this current format, let alone 30's to 60's, but that's neither here nor there.

I don't think we ever did an earlier Rule V draft. Perhaps a franchise league with earlier players...

Perhaps '25-'68....Big Train pitching to Musial, Ott facing Koufax...Gibson going up against Ruth and Gehrig in their prime...

You think the Yankees get hit hard in the draft now? How many HOF's can you protect? Mantle, Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, but can you afford to keep them all? Would make for some tough decisions....

My first thought is that I've been thinking about this for quite a while now.

One problem with taking it through 1968, whatever start year you use: you'll have a number of expansion teams with very short histories.

You could do 1920-1960 -- maybe only a 12-team league if you want to have a different mix of franchises each leg, like we have here.

Obviously there are other possible solutions...

If it's the same rules, the Yankees couldn't posisbly get hit harder than they do here.  Maybe lose their two each round a bit earlier in the round...

Perhaps 1960would be a good cutoff, pre expansion(Angels/Twins in '61, Mets, Colt 45"s/Astros '62)....NL would be 8 teams, most are very deep in talent 20"s to 60"s... Braves, Cubs, Reds, Giants, Dodgers, Pirates, Phillies and Cardinals

AL would be 8 teams, most have very deep talent pools...Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox, Tigers, Indians, A's, Browns/Orioles and Senators...

The 12 team league idea has merit, there would be teams not in use. A 16 team league would work too, just that all teams would be in use every season....either would be good.
