Beernoser's Daily Auction Game Room Topic

This has been a lot of fun...I feel like my late Aunt Dorothy who never met a yard sale she didn't love. She had a basement full of useless junk that she bought because it was cheap. What am I gonna do with Matt Diaz and Mark DeRosa?  Anyway , thanks Beernoser for a great concept. Best to all....still looking for a few bargain pitchers!!!!

Contracts question: Team A signs 15 guys to 3 yr contracts and cuts the rest of his players. Those 15 guys (2012) total $600, so next year(2013) they total $750(15 x $10 raises), and the other 10 players must fit under $250..........fine no problem.
And then the following year(2014) his original 15 now total $900(another $150 raise), and his other 10 must fit under $100............once again fine no problem.
But now for the 3rd year(2015) his original 15 now total $1050(another $150 raise), and he has no money left for his other 10 players.

Will Team A be told they cant sign those 15 to 3 year contracts because in 2015 they would be over the cap? Or will the contracts be allowed to stand with the hope that Team A will trade away some of them before they get to 2015?

Will the contracts we sign next year be calculated out for each remaining year, or will we just be resposible for getting our team under the cap *one year at a time*?

Yes -- you can't commit your self to more than you can afford in any season, even one four years away.

That should be the tension of this league. Each year you're going to have to decide ho to let go and who to resign, and I'm expecting some tough decisions.  In October you don't just want to fit in under 1,000, but you may want to leave lots of cash for the auction, and when you have to make those signing decisions, you won't have any idea who will be free agents because that will depend on everyone else's signing decisions.

So Team A will be told they cant sign those 15 guys for 3 years because in the 3rd year they will be over the cap.

In the example above, if Team A is at $995 for the 3rd year they are still illegal because they wont have enough left($5) to sign 10 new players.

So there will be a CPA on hand to project our contracts out for their duration to make sure we all will be able to fit under the cap in all of the remaining years?

I don't think we need a CPA. I think each owner should be responsible for their own roster and ensure that they do not project over the cap. If it turns out that they are over, contracts should be voided.

I have my team projected out 5 seasons on an Excel sheet. If I can do it, anyone can ;-)

I don't expect teams to get that close. I expect teams to leave hundreds of dollars each year.

Aso, I'm assuming there will always be expiring contracts. You wouldn't have all your contracts expire the same year.

Original Auction - then a Supplemental auction for ties and no-bids - then a Trading period before season starts - ???????
What happens if a team ends up with 23 players after the trading session - are all of the unclaimed players thrown into some sort of FA pool to be claimed(for $$)??
11/20/2012 2:52 PM
The supplemental auction is just a continuation of the original auction. As soon as the players are done (in about a week), then I start on the tied bids. That will go a few days until there aren't any ties left. Then the no bids will just take a few days..

As soon as that's over, then we have a trading period.

Last thing is a free agent period. Anyone below 33 players can sign what's left to get their roster to 33. These players are "restricted" free agents meaning they cannot be resigned. They are just roster fillers.

Then we start our season. Hopefully by the end of December. I would like to get the season going by then so we don't  have our February contract signing period while our season is still going. We need to have contract signing before spring training gets going though.

Which means we dont have to save money for them? If I spend 1000 on 25 guys I can still get 8 roster fillers to use as AAA?
11/20/2012 6:42 PM
That's correct, but it will limit your possible resigns.  I'm going to be watching 40 guys this season to see who I want to resign. Someone else may only have 25 possible resigns.

Kinda like buying Facebook @ $40 a share when it is only worth $20 a share.

At least he'll be $104 at the end of his 5 years.

The real crime is not Verlander for $72, but Ciriaco for $76.
