I don't think it showed that at all.

I think it showed a lot of 60's hippie wannabes who wanted to post "Look at me, I'm protesting something!" pictures of themselves holding signs with slogans on Twitter and Facebook with their iPhones and Androids.
I agree with this, and I am a Democrat.  In the town where I live, these yahoos destroyed a few local parks by camping in them for weeks at a time.  When they were finally evicted, they left a bunch of trash behind, a few trees were destroyed, and they did almost nothing to come back and clean up after themselves.

I live in the Bay Area, we had about as much Occupy activity as anybody.  It was ridiculous.  Twice they shut down the Port of Oakland for a day by crowding the wharfs.  At the end of that month, the port had lost between .1 and .2% of it's anticipated revenue, no throughput, but people had to work overtime to cover for it and the guys who were unfortunate enough to be driving trucks the days of the protests got stuck on the wharves and couldn't get home to their families until well after midnight.  There's a victory for the 99%, eh?

I don't think most of the occupiers were opposed to capitalism, they were just angry at a few specific individuals and the lack of federal regulation.  If you asked them they'd still want a capitalist system, just a somewhat more highly-regulated capitalist system.  Certainly only a very small proportion of them would identify as socialists.
