Define "small" and "not signficant" when talking about 21m.

A few mil, at most.

Who will the Mets pay last- Bobby Bonilla or Jason Bay?

Bonilla for sure. Until 2035.

Looks like Mets deferred $15 of the $21 million - they have to pay off by 2015.  So, it was more than "insignificant."

Which makes me think the Mets leaked that it was "insignificant" so that they don't have to answer to those who want the Mets to spend the extra $15 million they got off the books this year.  Grrrrrrrr

I'd heard in excess of 50% but you shouted me down so I figured I'd let you run with it.

I'll give you credit for it.  But everything I read said it was very little.

Got it from a Mets fan who heard it from another Mets fan.  He also told me a few days before it happened that they were cutting ties with Bay.  I assumed a trade of some sorts.  No idea where they heard the rumors.   If I had a link or something, I would have posted it.

This is the danger in signing free agents in their 30s.  That's why I'm on board with the build with prospects avenue the team is currently adopting.  If you've ever played a regressive league, you get to draft the players from their final season (as opposed to their rookie season) and its amazing how terrible guys are at the end of their careers.  When do most players end their careers?  Early 30s.  FYI:  My opinion is that Bay could not rebound from the concussions.
