Maryland and Rutgers move to Big Ten Topic

HD doesn't always follow the real life conferences (and the math doesn't always work for that anyway).

Plus there are several changes (some suggested by alblack56) which need to be done with team names and what not that have yet to be implemented. So it could be a while even if they do make changes.

When do the changes affect the HD D1?
never.

It's one of the things HD has correct.  Twelve teams is the right size for a conference.  After we get to the "super" conferences of 16 memebers, it won't take long before they realize they've made a big mistake.

It'd be impossible for WIS to keep up with the conference changes. TCU went from the MWC to the Big East to the Big 12 in about 18 months.

DIII is even more screwed up than DI. I can't imagine having to keep it straight at WIS.

EXAMPLE:

The Freedom Conference was started by 8 schools in 1999. Only 3 original members (  DeSales, Fairleigh Dickinson,  and King's) remain..

TIMELINE
1999- conference begins

2007- Drew leaves for the Landmark Conference
        Lycming departs for the Commonwealth
         Scranton goes to the Landmark
Delaware Valley goes to the Middle Atlantic
Arcadia joins the conference, leaving the Pennsylvania A.C.
         Manhattanville joins, leaving the Skyline

2008- Wilkes leaves for the Middle Atlantic
Arcadia, after just one season, joins the Middle Atlantic
Alvernia joins, leaving the Pennsylvania A.C.
Misericordia joins, leaving the Pennsylvania A.C
         Eastern joins, leaving the Pennsylvania

2009- After just one season, Alvernia departs for the Middle Atlantic

NOTE: The Pennsylvania A.C. has had 18 different members since it was founded in 1992.  There was so much jumping around that they changed their name in 2008 to the Colonial States A.C.

Witness the big east.

Tulane will join the Big East in all sports, while East Carolina will join the league as a football-only member in 2014, sources told ESPN on Tuesday.

Tulane will make its official announcement at 2 p.m. ET, as will East Carolina at that time.

The reason the Big East opted for 13 schools in 2014 is that the league expects either Louisville or Connecticut to leave for the ACC, sources said. The Cardinals and Huskies are the favorites to replace Maryland, sources said.

The Big East has been in flux for more than a year. West Virginia, TCU, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Rutgers announced they were leaving, while Temple joined this year. Next season, Boise State, San Diego State, Memphis, UCF, Houston and SMU are scheduled to join the league.

Navy will join as a football-only member in 2015.

I'll be surprised if SD State and Boise don't bail and go in with BYU to the MWC.
Big East is now almost finished becoming CUSA. Well done.

I always hoped the Big 10 would go the opposite route of everyone else, stay at 10-12 teams, and have a system like the EPL where the bottom teams in each division would play the Friday night before the Big 10 Championship.  Loser gets relegated to the MAC.  Winner of the MAC (That game could be Thursday) moves up to the Big 10.  I'm sure a few of the teams wouldn't like it, but I really think this would work in terms of money.  Iowa vs. Illinois to stay in the Big 10 is a heck of a lot more watchable than Iowa vs. Illinois in October.  I think it'd get big ratings, which is obviously what the Big 10 cares about.  Heck, this year the Thur/Fri games would probably get more viewers than the B10 title game.

From ESPN.com

The Atlantic Coast Conference presidents and chancellors will hold a Wednesday morning teleconference in which they are expected to vote to add Louisville to the ACC, an industry source told ESPN.

North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham said Tuesday that the league's presidents would consider Louisville, UConn and Cincinnati for membership. The ACC is seeking a team to replace Maryland, which will leave for the Big Ten in 2014.

Sources said there is a sense among league presidents that the ACC will vote to add only one member because the remaining two Big East schools have no other options and the ACC could get them later on if the ACC lost any other schools.

All three schools have made it no secret that they want to leave the Big East for the ACC.

Cincinnati even made a strong push to gain admittance to the ACC with a campaign about why the school is a more viable option than UConn and Louisville, a source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.

Cincinnati has now come full circle. They left Confernce USA in 2005 to join the Big East.  Now they're welcoming Memphis, Houston, East Carolina and Tulane back into the fold.  What a mess.  They've had one football sellout since joining the Big East, playing Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse and Louisville.   How will they draw for Central Florida and Navy?

And what about UConn, whose nearest football playing schools are now Temple and Navy?

The Bearcats and Huskies  best hope is that the SEC expands, taking two ACC teams. (Florida St.? Georgia Tech? Virginia Tech? Clemson?). Then Cincinnati and UConn could go to the ACC.

What If...Conference Realignment
That is such a cool project! I'll be following it with interest

You realize that if you wanted you could make a Texas conference out of only fbs Texas teams? And one of teams only from georgia, Florida and South Carolina?
