Lets talk about soccer. Topic

Someone bashed my views about soccer on a thread and it seems like it is time for some clarity.

I admit I do not have enough evidence to prove that soccer is a socialist plot.

I do have an interesting collection of circumstantial evidence...

1 In the 70s almost no kids played soccer. Today soccer is a very popular sport.

2 Compared to the other major sports there is almost no interest in professional or college soccer among kids.

3 There is some resistance among the left towards football and baseball.

4 Soccer is viewed as a more diverse and world sport.

So why does a sport that no one follows become popular among kids?

You make the call....

kids play it because it takes virtually no skill to play it (admittedly, poorly), soccer is a great equalizer-only the fat kids can't run, and occasionally kick, a ball

baseball, football, basketball, tennis, hockey all require more specialized skills

granted in another 50 years, there won't be enough non-fat kids to make up a league in each city

less gear to play soccer.....all you need is a ball and a big net  :P

that would explain why poor kids play it, but not suburban kids, whose mom's, driving big *** SUV's, could afford pretty much anything

1.  Wrong.....maybe where YOU lived where there was no soccer being played, it was huge in California...which at the time leaned Republican.

2.  Around here you see kids wearing Sounders jerseys fairly often, at games there are kids everywhere.....is this a scientific there's almost no interest?  Or a typical pull it out of your *** swamp no interest?

3.  Resistance how?

4.  Soccer is a much more global sport than baseball or football...even you should be able to see that.

So is it a right wing conspiracy when the US tries to develop intrest in baseball and football around the world?

All i can do is LOL at Swamps conspiracy theory...

I tried to explain to swamp about the right-leaning ways of Philip Anschutz, co-founder of MLS and owner or part owner of several teams. I tried to explain the involvement of oilman Lamar Hunt. But there is no room for facts in swamp's world.

Kids play soccer because its one of the first games they can play. You can roll a ball out and tell 3 year olds the main idea of soccer and boom they can play it. Football is just not possible in any shape or form for a 3 year old. Even T-Ball at 3 is a struggle.

soccer is basic human locomotive skills

monkeys can play soccer, but they don't because it bores them

i asked down at the portland zoo, they signed them, they said the monkeys signed back Nope too boring i'd rather pick nits

"3 There is some resistance among the left towards football and baseball. "

Baseball, resistance among lefties?  Try telling Fidel that.

Only stubborn lefties who think they can play 2B.

I think soccer has increased its participation amongst youth because it is very inexpensive--both in the equipment parents are required to purchase, and in the facilities needed to hold the games.

In Canada, soccer has made its gains at the expense of baseball/slowpitch.

Youth football is also increasing in popularity, but when a sport is starting from almost zero, it is easy to post
large percentage increases.

So-called "extreme sports" like skateboarding have also won some youngsters away from the more traditional sports.

I don't see any of this as a socialist plot, but perhaps more as an anarchistic one.  The behind the scene perpetrators do
not have a vested interest in any of these sports, they just want to upset the status quo, and foster chaos.

Trouncing social traditions is a means to an end for them.

---------------------------------

Society would probably be better off if we could get back to Hockey/Basketball in the winter; Baseball in the summer; Football in the fall.

Niche sports such as stock car racing, tennis, and golf would be permitted on a limited basis.

Curling would be elevated to the 5th most prominent sport.
