From another thread, and because it's the off-season, how deep do you have to go on this list http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/W_career.shtml to find a pitcher you'd consider "poor"?

I didn't do extensive research, I just eyeballed them(and clicked a few I didn't remember fondly) and came up with Tom Zachary at 148(I think).

Who's your turd?

Pud Galvin, #4 overall, just because pitching in the 19th century was just an entirely different job than it evolved into as we got into the 20th.

Yes, Pud is a HOF turd

But seriously folks, the answer is Jerry Koosman, and that's personal disgust.

I'd argue that he was one of the most effective pitchers of his era.     I don't think Babe Ruth could be pulled from the 1920s and hit 714 homers today.

I wouldn't say "poor" exactly, but Bobby Matthews at #25 racked up a whole lot of wins without being particularly great. 297-248, 104 ERA+

I stopped at Livan Hernandez.

Jerry Koosman?!? Come on....

Screw Koosman.

Sad Sam Jones (64) was also mediocre in effectiveness, but great in durability. 229-217, 104 ERA+

Is there a story there somewhere?

Koosman spit on him after a Mets game.

Oh, wait, that was Hernandez.

Rick Wise (a couple steps up from Zachary) is probably another nice place to stop. 188-181, 101 ERA+.

And I think Mike Torrez (150) 185-160, 98 ERA+ is the first on the list with an ERA+ below 100. But I didn't check them all.

It was McDowell!

Why would you foul these esteemed forums with a subject as stupid and archaic as "wins" by pitchers?

KOOSMAn AND MATLACK WERE VERY GOOD PITCHERS WHO HAD VERY VERY ANEMIC OFFENCES BEHIND THEM.

LOOK UP SOME OF THOSE 70'S METS STAT LEADERS, SOME YEARS THE HIGHS WERE 60-70 RBI'S, ETC

THEY WOULDA WON 20 EVERY YEAR WITH CINCY,BALT, PITT, OAK, ETC

LOOK EM UP, I DARE YE
