In season 63 the even numbered Heartland teams will be at home in their Challenge games and the odd numbered teams will be away. Longwood and St. Mary's TX will be in the Yarnell, so Heartland 1 plays CVAC 2 and CVAC 1 plays Heartland 2.  I don't yet know if there will be any conflicts caused by the Derby City Classic and/or the Yam Jam, so these matchups could change a bit if that happens.  Please keep checking here so that when recruiting starts you will know who to schedule.  Here are the ranks for each conference:

Heartland:
1. St. Mary's (TX)
2. St. Edwards
3. W. Alabama
4. Valdosta St.
5. Drury
6. Incarnate Word
7. Rockhurst
8. N. Alabama
9. W. Florida
10. Lincoln
11. Montevallo
12. Oklahoma Panhandle St.

CVAC
1. Longwood
2. Coker
3. Belmont Abbey
4. Pfeiffer
5. Limestone
6. Erskine
7. Lees McRae
8. Mount Olive
9. Queens U. (NC)
10. St. Andrews Presbyterian
11. Barton
12. Anderson

Bump
4/23/2013 11:48 PM

#25 Anderson (4-0) at Oklahoma Panhandle State (2-2):  What a difference a season (or two) makes.  Anderson lost 71 straight games over the course of three seasons.  bscollier guided them to a 10-17 record last season and now has a perfect 4-0 mark on the young season.  Anderson's high octane fastbreak/press attack is led by SF Rogelio Vasquez and his 19.8 ppg.  PG Cory Hodgins (11.0 ppg) and SF Anthony Kuehner (10.5 ppg) provide punch off the bench.  Anderson is 2nd in D-II Iba with 91.8 ppg.

khook19's motion/zone set offers backcourt scoring aplenty.  SG's Brandon Berry and Paul Knox with PG Lewis Arocho combine for 32.8 ppg.  OkPan puts 9 underclassmen on the floor and has a tall order in undefeated Anderson.

Oddmakers are believers in undefeated Anderson, installing them as the 20 point favorite.

Montevallo (2-2) at Barton (2-2):  After dropping the first two games of the season, srook and Montevallo have righted the ship and won their last two.  Three SRs key the offensive for the Mont:  Timothy Henderson, Charles Goodwin, and Roger Battle.

jtmatt's squad is also led by a talented trio:  Joel Greene, Jesse Street, and Andy Fournier.

This one should be a good matchup.  Oddsmakers like Montevallo by 4.

This one should be a good matchup.  Oddsmakers like Montevallo by 4.

Anderson 73, Oklahoma Panhandle State 57:  Young Oklahoma Panhandle State rode an emotional home crowd and a 3-2 zone throughout a competivie first half and only trailed by 4 at the break.  Bscollier became just collier in the second half, because they dropped the bs and pulled away for a comfortable 16 point win.

C Mario Esquer was player of the game for Anderson with 11 points and 14 boards.  Cory Hodgins and John Dix each added 12 off the bench.  Lewis Arocho had 11 for OKPan, which went a not OK 17-of-32 from the free throw line.

Barton 84, Montevallo 71:  Montevallo jumped all over Barton during the first ten minutes, building a 20-4 lead on the strength of ridiculous defense.  Montevallo then learned that Jesse Street is a bad part of town at Barton.  Mr Street got loose for 22 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals.  Barton blew up for 57 points in the second half.

Mr Street was player of the game and led all scorers with his 22.  C Andy Fournier chipped in 10 off the bench for Barton.  Roger Battle and Timothy Henderson tossed in 16 and 12 for the Mont, but it wasn't enough against a Barton team that generated 16 steals.

In what should be a surprise to no-one that follows the Challenge, the CVAC jumps out to a 2-0 lead.

(been a bit under the weather, sorry for the lack of updates)

Rockhurst 68, Lees-McRae 57: Underdog Rockhurst and unipanther went on the road to coach dennyj's Lees-McRae and pulled the surprising upset.  Despite a 45-31 rebounding edge, Lees-McRae gradually let this one slip away in the 2nd half.  Rockhurst held LM to 38% from the floor enroute to the shocking win.  The Rock also went 8 of 18 from deep.

After a split the prior night, Rockhurst's victory brings the Heartland within a game, trailing 3-2 to the CVAC.

Highlights from 2 days ago

Queens 61 W. Florida 51.  - Queens played some mean, physical defense - and W. Florida couldn't get anything going offensively. W. Florida focused on a balanced offense, but that just meant that all of their players were equally ineffective. Some top-notch 3-Point shooting by Queens' leading scorers Atkins and Powell helped the Royals pull away in this sluggish game.

Lincoln 82, St. Andrews Prez 76 - Lincoln was definitely the favorite over St. Andrews, but nobody told that to yaklyn's squad - after 30 minutes, the game was completely neck and neck. Big 3's by Haskins and Schreiner then helped Lincoln get an 8 point lead with about 5 minutes for go, and then they held on in a free-throw fest. Edward Brock was the anchor inside for Lincoln, with 15 points and 10 rebounds. PG Jack Cazebas kept St. Andrews in the game pretty much by himself, but the rest of the team didn't help out enough.
4/28/2013 1:18 PM
Drury 63, Limestone 61: A desperation 3 closed the margin to a bucket, but Drury led most of the way in this one. Drury had 4 starters In double digits. limestone shot 50% from 3 but it wasn't enough to overcome Drury's advantage from the free throw line.

CVAC 3, Heartland 3. More to come.

Valdosta St. and Belmont Abbey win in week 9, meaning that it's looking like  4-4 tie going in to the deciding week 10, in which 4 games will be played.

Dave, I can do the write-ups for you today if you dont have time - just give me the word.

 Highlights from 2 days ago.

Belmont Abbey 76, W. Alabama 60
- Bel Abbey gradually strangled the life out of W. Alabama, who fought hard but just couldn't keep up with B.A.'s team depth. Belmont Abbey, currently #1 in the country, would have won by more if they didn't miss 16 free throws.

Valdosta St 73, Pfieffer 54 - Valdosta St. raced to an early lead and was up by 18 at halftime on a tough Pfieffer squad. - they were playing with some fury after a frustrating 2OT loss to Emporia St. the night before. Valdosta really dominated on the inside with Burton and Cabana and from the bench, with 38 bench points. Pfieffer's Ira Snow was also shut down by Valdosta's defense -

From this point, the tourney was 4 to 4.
